Glad to hear he is an ex!

Big rain storm blew in last night about 2am. Pouring buckets! Then started getting worse right about the time I needed to get both boys to school, different high schools in different towns and no carpool today!

With winds, torrential rain, potholes, tree limbs, and lots of water pooling and running across the road, it was a wild ride! About 15 minutes after I dropped off #2, it let up. Of course!

Jumping in, ker-splash, from other threads, cuz, well, my 21-month-old gals haven't laid for three days! They molted at end of autumn and look to be in good shape. The five of them have been confined a lot to their coop because they don't like the snow, though now they have a little wet ground to walk on. I recently changed out most of the deep litter, their grains are high protein, their water is good, and I give them cooked oats with whatever else I have--mealworms, leftover cat food, veggies, etc. I picked up two of them, and their vents feel fine. Any clues?

Welcome!
Mine are kind of erratic this time of year, but they are older. 2 days in a row, no eggs. Today, 3 so far. Will check for more when I lock up.

Are you sure there aren't any hidden eggs? Is it possible that some other critter is stealing eggs? Check for mites. Check for worms. Something may have stressed or scared them... But it's probably just the weather and lack of sunlight. Good luck for tomorrow! Let us know.

I hate to ask this, but are you giving them a regular feed? My "know-it-all" neighbors never gave their flock feed. Just cracked corn.
Also, they need oyster shell.
Otherwise, it sounds like all is well.

We'll see what today brings. They are on a locally milled organic layer feed, so very well nourished; access to grit and oyster shell; completely enclosed in chicken wire, so little chance of egg stealers; doubt they would lay under the coop in this cold, wet weather when they have a warmer, dry inside with lots of wood shavings. I'll see what happens today.

Hi and welcome to the new folks!

it's still ridiculously cold and windy, but not quite as severe as yesterday. I had to make a few repairs to the back pen's doorway coverings, the wind ripped them halfway off! all was fine inside because the flaps were added to block tiny openings. still, a small amount of snow did sift inside. everybody's fine, and I really should be out there with the camera, but I am so beat. I have to go to the Dentist at 2:30, which always makes me laugh when it's at that time... such an old joke. it was 4, but they called and asked if I could fill an opening. I had to take Chester to the vet this morning for his Lyme booster and I had the phone in my hand, ready to call them to see if I could possibly come in earlier... and ringy dingy!
other things that have chewed through my morning, Elbe suddenly is re-injured. so frustrating. I separated her because the chicks were not exactly being very nice to her anymore, not terrible, but I blame them. so she is back in the bathroom, and I visit her a lot so she's not lonely. she looks just like she did when she was first injured. I hope it doesn't take another 2 months for her to recover to the point where she was - so sad, because she was doing so great, walking perfectly and roosting! then I freakin' discovered Hershey cat lying on her! so maybe it was him... but he was more just affectionately lying next to her, I don't know... but I blocked him out too.

Sounds like you have a full day, Cheeka!
I am not sure why I can't count, but I have 22 eggs right now ready for the incubator. I thought I had only 20, even though that number sounded wrong. Since I couldn't leave well enough alone, the incubator needs to re-adjust to the proper temperature. If I can get two more eggs from the chickens today I will put them in for an even two dozen.

Well, I have a mouse infestation in the coop. There were mice in the area of the coop long before I had the chickens, then they went away when I got the girls! Or so I thought. It wouldn't be so bad, except that they have moved in to the house. Good thing I found a closet filled with old mouse traps. :plbb 30 of them. The girls are locked in the coop at night, so I am going to put them out by the coop, then take them away before I let the girls out in the morning. Those mice ! :he
