Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Well, they're showing your winter snow storm on the news Cheeka, and it still looks big enough to me, reduced or not. Guess you are used to it and are prepared. Hope all goes well. What about that friendly young man in your neighborhood with the plow? Maybe he'll be helping tomorrow. Offer him some pie! Egg pie!

If Peach is still broody, why not try letting her sit on some eggs? Probably better to try a few, though, so any potential hatchers might not be alone. One thing I have heard about hatching out pullet eggs is that they can be too small, not enough yolk, to sustain the growing chick.

Got 6 eggs today, so back to normal. I'm considering worming the mob. Lots of watery stools being squirted all over. Never had this before, so I'm suspecting they may be dealing with worms, as nothing else seems to be wrong. Won't be eating eggs for a few weeks if I decide to go ahead and do it. Have to wait until the medication is out of their system before you can eat them. Wonder if it's okay to feed them back to the girls or to the dogs. Hmmm... more research.

Ugh W4W i hate worming. I was reading about the pour on cattle wormer, I think I am going to get everyone done this weekend. I will need extra hands for it to get them all gathered up so it may be a good time. And with bringing 2 new pigs its probably a good time for it.
We laid 2 chicken and 1 goose egg today

I have some injectable Ivermec cattle stuff that we used for ear mites in the big bunny. From what I have read, I can put it in their water, and one source says it's okay to eat the eggs, but I probably won't. Actually, I've been thinking I should try some yogurt first and ACV with the active mother in it. If these things don't make things right, then I'll go the worming route.

Are geese good layers? I know there are some duck breeds that rival chickens for productivity. (producktivity!) I had ducks when I was a kid. Cute and fun, but tooo messy, and the only geese I have known were quite mean, so I'm very happy with my mostly gentle chicken mob.

I just candled my eggs. I saw movement in 3 but the EE are hard to tell. All I could see is a dark shadow. Any ideas. This is day 8
Cooool. I haven't ever incubated or candled, but if some are fertile and growing, I would think most of the others would likely be good too. Is there a reason not to just leave them in? The hatchaholics on my local say you have to use a very bright light to see through the dark shells. There is something about the size of the air sac at the large end of the egg that can also tell you about development if you can see that at all. There is supposedly a good thread about incubating by SallySunshine, but it's a gajillion pages and I haven't tackled it yet. If Mustacheio and I get the Serama bantams, we will probably incubate the eggs, so I'll have to learn about it. Unless we get lucky and get a broody hen which I'd prefer. Then if something goes wrong, I can blame it all on the little chicken instead of me!!!

I'm not incubating, I have a hen setting on these. This is my first for hatching anything.

Haha! I was going to ask you, but thought that since you were candling... Lucky you have a hen to do the work and take care of the babies too. That's the way to go. I have read that the hens seem to know when an egg is not developing, and will push bad eggs out of the nest. Rotten egg goo all over feathers would be a bad scene.

I got one egg this morning, and have to go back out soon, with a flashlight... to collect whatever else they produced soon, I took a major nap this afternoon, 1. because I needed it... and 2. because I plan to get up at 3-4 in the morning to start plowing. I just had supper and watched the news, they've reduced the snow to 7"-15" accumulation, and it's supposed to end a few hours sooner tomorrow morning. so good... "Mail Count" starts tomorrow, we had one in September, so not all routes "have" to be counted, lots of large routes had the ability to "opt out" which most did... my route is small, or "auxilliary" so all aux routes, and highway contract routes, and vacant routes have to be counted. we have a highway contractor in my office, his route encompasses the edges of 5 towns, all the out of the way boxes for the regular carriers... I've done his route for him many times, it's fun... but I imagine, quite the pain in the neck to count...

I have the one egg from this morning, should be fertile, and it's small, one of Wilma's... I'm so tempted to stick it under Peach. she is still brooding, but has not laid an egg for maybe a week now... can't really remember if it's over 5 days. she's pretty well healed, new feathers are just now starting to sprout, she looks quite ratty... I could really use her crate for the chicks, and I would love to put her back out in the dome after the storm clears, the weather is supposed to improve... she would be fine with her apron as protection... just don't know what to do with her broodiness... eh... I have a few days to think it over...
Mail count ounds like a pain, ugh. Hope it goes fast for you. Oooo i like plowing snow. its so peaceful especially if its still snowing super early in the morning!. That's tough with peach. I have my little lorps so close to being ready to go out to the new coop. Just am afraid its too cold yet. Will do another coat of paint and maybe wait a few more days...

I really want to introduce Butters to the flock. So worried red will go after him. I am still thinking of separating him with the CX girls so he has his own ladies, maybe the EE, she avoids Red like he is poison.

I got 6 yesterday. Wonder way I will get today.
Scary isnt it!!!!

I am telling Sally that you said that! Okay, I am not. I will just think about it every time I talk to her.
I did read it. I guess she has been adding to it as she has mishaps herself.
