Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

4 eggs, and one totally frozen, broken, partially pecked at little BR egg
it was whippin' cold today. the sky was completely clear, awesome blue, no clouds at all. it was a full day, but not too bad, didn't need to use the on-call person. I had one live delivery. a fish. when I got to the place, I asked "what kind of fish is in the box?" the man rolled his eyes and laughed. "it's a 5 cent feeder fish", he says. he told me his son is a Marine, and he came home recently with his girlfriend, also a Marine... she is going back to Afghanistan and she didn't want her fish to die, so she asked her boyfriends little brother if he would take care of it for her. she spent $50 to ship her little 5 cent fish. the younger boy was excitedly asking "is that Bruno? is Bruno here? let me have him!" I loved it. great end to the day...

everything is good on the homefront, Peach is still sitting on her eggs, seems very happy in her "cab" nest. I've not touched them other than to tuck them back under her when they would pop out in the larger nest, this doesn't happen anymore... but i have no idea if they are at all viable. I'm overfeeding the older gang... but it's so cold, I figure they should have as much to eat as possible to stay warm. they didn't finish it all by dusk, but they did put a hurtin' on it...

I think I got slow learners or something. They can't sing the egg song. They can't do the squat, Can't stomp their feet, and they can't do the island dance. They are for sure addicted to scratch. And I guess i'm stuck with them now. Nobody else is going to put up with their BS.
HAHAHAHA! Sorry but that really made me laugh out loud!

That was a wonderful story about Bruno, the luckiest goldfish in the world! Sounds like another great idea for a children's book. Maybe Animallover could do some illustrations to go with it.

So great that Peach is sitting on eggs! I've heard a lot of people say

I've read a lot of posts that say that broody hens know when an egg isn't viable and will eject it from the nest. How many eggs are under her? How many days has she been sitting? I think it's 21 days for hatching? so maybe chickies by the end of the month!

The days are getting longer, but it's not much warmer for you.

I always look forward to OK's posts because I usually get a good laugh! Sometimes it's hard to tell who's in charge around his place. Those chickens sure do give him a run for his money!
Thank you for the welcome! I have 4 layers now... finally. I've been waiting on one of them to start for a couple weeks now, she's 26 weeks old and all the others from her hatch have been laying!

So...fyi...I think my girls hate me. Spent HOURS yesterday putting down poop pans under their roost. And I gave them an automatic waterer. Well I ran out of pans, but figured, hey, its only like 6 inches, they dont ever roost in that corner anyway.

Guess where they roosted last night!?!?! Argh!
