Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Still no broody. I made a smaller nest box this afternoon and put it in the broody coop. The other one was really large and not very "private". Kinda open in the front. Noticed the chicks climbing in the box when Big Broody ( BB) would go there to lay. BB has four of her eggs and three golf balls. I have not been collecting her eggs hoping she would start sitting on them. So far she has no interest in hatching eggs. Her chicks are pretty good size and she no longer gives them food or treats when she finds them. Instead she takes treats and runs with them to keep the chicks from getting it. I turned the new nest box away from the sunlight so it stays pretty dark in and around the box. Only one thing left to try, to get her broody and it will work every time. Go buy a incubator. I think I will wait it out

My grandfather would sit a lamp on the floor with a pan of water under it and the light on at night. He said the fleas would jump at the light because of the heat and land in the pan of water and drown. He swore by it. Anybody ever try that.

Hey, Cheeka (and the rest of you, too) I need an opinion! In my house I have rugs on top of rugs on top of rugs ... DH's aunt is a loon. What can I say? In the living room there is a green carpet on top of a rug on top of a smaller carpet pad on top of another smaller rug on top of a wood floor. I have hated this green carpet, but when the fish tank leaked about 10 gallons of water last week.... The mess goes all the way down. So it is time to do something! Here are 2 pictures to help you help me decide how far down to go. To the wood or to the rug under the carpet. So far I have 75% of the green carpet rolled up, and the rug underneath is okay, though there are a few areas where it is showing some wear. Please ignore my ugly foot ... And the green nail polish.
Do away with the carpet. Especially if you have pets. Love the hard wood.

The beautiful floor everyone voted for isn't the beautiful floor we thought it was.:barnie It looks like they began painting it, then quit, and put down the nice looking wood linoleum, and then put down the carpets. I will just take up the green carpet, and leave the patterned the rug.
Leave a border and use that deck paint that seals. Use a color that fit your taste. It would look neat

OK, as soon as you mentioned your Grandfathers method, i remembered my Grandfather did that too... he also put fairly empty peanut butter jars (still some inside) on the floor to catch the palmetto bugs (giant cockroaches!)

one more week for Peachy's latest batch of eggs, all bearded Silkie chicks. should be interesting... and it raises my percentage of potential broodies.

Ruby is allergic to Chester's food. he's been eating Kibble's and Bits, so I continued that, and would mix in some better food of Ruby's... and because they tend to switch bowls... I gave Ruby some K & B's. mistake. she's so itchy, her skin is red and raw... I have probably 30lbs of K & B, which will now go to the chickens.

I also picked up some kitten food, as it's 40% crude protein. started giving it to the gang, in particular, those who are lacking feathers. I cannot believe my eyes that in 2 days, they all have poky pin feathers!

This is exactly the kind of thing that happens to me! Other people (my brother) decide to pull up ugly old green carpet (off the same roll as yours) and discover a lovely 50 yr old hardwood floor in great condition. Me, that quick half day project turns into a month long chore.

I don't blame you for putting the carpet back over it. Not like you don't have a zillion chickens to take care of instead!

I gave the bathroom carpet a yank before bed, and saw linoleum. The bathroom was the carpet I have been planning on pulling up. The dog has had three accidents in there this week, my husband was never taught to aim, the aunt had a lot of accidents, and I am sure her husband did too. Then there is the toilet overflowing, and a pipe breaking. That carpet had to go!! I am taking another break because; The dust is killing me, the padding is stuck, and has to be scraped up with a spatula, and as all the house is carpeted, I have no broom or mop to clean the floor. I did get the broom from the porch (carpeted too!!). It is germy (chicken poo) but I will get over it. I am scrubbing the floor by hand. Maybe tomorrow I will get to the other house, and get my mops and brooms that DH didn't think to bring Tuesday when he was over there.

He was so proud of himself for bringing my "cleaning supplies". Things like Lysol wipes and toilet cleaner. Things I have here, and could have been tossed. Oh well. I will go see if I can find paint thinner to help me get the padding up. I hope I don't have to do that on my hands and knees!
I found 8ish eggs yesterday. The BCM egg was cracked,, and of the 7 in the nest boxes, one was 3/4 of a shell, and 2 weren't much better. I took the oyster shell server out about a month ago, and forgot to put it back in. I am hoping that was the problem, and I can start getting good egg numbers again.
One LH has not begun laying yet. I am waiting it out with her. And the 4 GLW girls and 3 White Rock girls are 16 weeks now. When should they begin?

WOW MC! BIG chore for a little space! at least this time it paid off... that flooring is pretty good for it's time, and because it was well protected, it still looks really nice! I think it was the "thing" to do in the 70's - carpet everything... I understand, it's warmer, it muffles sound, but geez louise... in the bathroom? the wettest room in the house, and yeah, everyone has those issues with "poor aim" or accidents... why have carpet in there to soak it all up and retain it...??? I love my tile floor... it may be chilly, but it's so easy to keep clean.
