Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Hope everyone is doing well, and hunkered down for the cold tonight. wind chills are supposed to hit -20 by morning, ugh.. Everyone got cracked corn as an extra snack before bed. does anyone know how old do chicks need to be before they can digest it? babies are still in the brooder, but feathering out wonderfully. We hit 5 weeks tomorrow! I am thinking a yummy yogurt birthday pie... hehe!

probably will start in March.

I am sorry to not have gotten pics up... I did take a bunch, not sure how many are any good, still in the camera... and she seemed much better today, after one small dose of pulverized B complex in some applesauce, she pretty much stood still while I had her out, so she didn't display as much as she does when she's in the crate. I've had a rough day. I didn't have to work, thankfully... I only slept from 11-1 last night, up the rest of the night with serious muscle spasms. so I picked up potassium today as well as more vitamins for my girl. spent the day sitting in the recliner under a blanket watching Disney movies. I'm sore and I'm crashing now. long day tomorrow, but I will get to downloading the pics asap... good night!

oh yeah, 3 eggs, before late afternoon... I didn't go back out.

get some good rest, hope tonight's better.

Brrrrr..... you guys with the single digit temps, I wish you a warm cozy night. Your chickens too (even especially Roger and Chuck-?).

jchny, chicks can eat pretty much everything from day 1, so chick scratch is fine as a treat. You must provide them with some grit to be able to digest it. Our mama hens would have the chicks roaming around and enticing them with goodies as soon as they were fluffed out. My mom kept them in a ground cage (to keep them from being eaten by the dogs) with chick food, water, and a nest box, and they ate everything the hen did. Probably a good idea to introduce new things slowly, though. I had my chicks eating aphids and kale during their first week (grit mixed with chick mash).

Cheeka, hope you get some rest. I thought the PO hired some new people so you would not have such a crazy schedule. Not working very well, is it? Muscle cramps are nasty. Sounds like you need a hot tub! I'd love to have one, but the noise form the filter pump would drive me nuts. We already have to put up with the neighbor's.

Glad to hear the chick is doing better.

lol)
Somewhere, i saw some posts about a large mealie can damage the crop? but my lil runt put a stop to that! she can jump almost to my knee already. They had a few little pieces of roma tomato saturday. WOW that had us all in tears! they all just froze, then squirt the runt dived grabbed and ran lol! They got their own little bag of "chick grit" from "grampaw" (my Dad) He coos like a broody, he says they coo, like a purr? and grandbabies all come running its adorable!
OH guys, my free one is a different breed. it looked the same... not anymore. I fear the worst. I looked at baby chick pics this afternoon. Ugh, I think I may have another ((( BR ))) Actually its ok, I like my sweet girl, and she lays a pretty egg almost not quite extra large. It does resemble a jersey giant chick too

Have not heard from ACW since her last post. She is in my thoughts everyday and praying that there will be good news when next we hear from her.

Was thinking that earlier when i finished catching up.
