Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

W4W.....awesome pictures. Some of those I have never even seen or even knew they existed.

There are some alien looking chickens around. Some with the frizzeled or sizzled feathers that point all over in every direction. Some with combs that look like devil horns and some poor things with poofs on their heads that are so big they can't even see. Guess there's a little Dr. Frankenstein in all of us to create something that is so far from the original jungle fowl. Really thinking about getting a miniature Serama or two. I want to be like Paris Hilton and carry it around in my purse.

At her age, she should probably wait to start picking out bar stools. I mean, she has about six more years until she can legally drink. We should save the stool samples for a few more years.

Howdy! It's always better to have company while waiting, so welcome!  Are your chicks all from white eggs? I am trying to think of black breeds of chickens that lay white eggs. Probably any of the Mediterranean breeds like that Minorca with the huge wattles. Really doesn't matter what kind of chickens they are as long as they are the kind that lay eggs!  :D

Thanks!! Not sure what the eggs looked like that my crew came from, we never saw any broodies sitting! However, 4 of those eggs came from the very grouchy, very broody hen that most of my crew came from.

Someone said they were a mixture of commercial layers and RIR because they had the exact mix. However, their chickens laid brown eggs. But apparently this group lays white. I know they are truely mutts lol.

The rooster I believe is the proud papa.

Took me a second, but I got it!

And I hope you're not feeding that delicious looking Monkey bread to the chickens.

The hen on the left looks like a black sexlink, one on the right, I'm not sure and the roo might possibly be Ameraucana (looks like pea comb and blue legs?) so you might end up with some pullets that lay blue or green eggs. More to wait for!

Geesh!! Now I'm even more anxious! EE's are one of my favs, and on my one day to own (as well as a BR....maybe lol.) I would love lil tiny green eggs!

Well, I'm no expert so I hope I'm not getting your hopes up too much. Check out the rooster to see if his legs are blue/slate and if his comb looks like a crumpled up folded sort of thing. If an Am, he would also have a beard and cheeks and no wattles. Unfortunately, there are a lot of roosters with that coloring and it's hard to see everything in the pic. You can also check the chicks for signs of EEdom. Green legs are usually a dead giveaway and they will have little pea combs that look sort of wide with a low narrow ridge down the center. Oh, and beards and fluffy cheeks too, but not always. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

If you want EEs, Cheeka's going to rolling in EE eggs this summer. She could probably be convinced to part with a few for you to hatch!

Edited:
Bummer, just checked out the enlarged pic of the roo and his wattles are there clear as day. Sorry.

Needing to get some EEs is a really great excuse to get more chickens, though! Who doesn't want more chickens?!
