Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Well, that's the problem then, his life is way too easy! Haha! We are all home-bodies here, no one is fond of crowds and loud venues. Both boys learned to swim, but neither enjoys competition much. Things have changed quite a bit from when we were kids. If you decide at 8 years old that you want to take up soccer or something, then you are way behind the curve because everybody else started at 4! My guys were more interested in Legos at that age. Mustacheio does take fencing lessons

and he's in with the older more serious folks (the classes for his age were too squirrely which he hated) so he gets beat up pretty good there. My current plan is to get him back into 4H raising chickens. There are these lovely, but entirely useless, mini chickens called Seramas that he fell for at that chicken show we went to last weekend. The roosters are not very noisy, so we could have a couple for breeding without annoying the neighbors too much. Seramas can't take temps less than 40* (they weigh under a pound), so they will probably be kept in the garage, which will also cut down on the noise. Still in the initial planning stages, and I may come to my senses before it's too late, but it would be fun to hatch our own eggs!

Oh dear, hubby's eyes are rolling back up into his head again! He really is an animal lover at heart, he just doesn't know it until I bring them home!

OOOH i love the little seramas and the seabrights. I may be getting a rehomed silkie roo tomorrow, freecycle has one listed, i sent a message right away! He is a buff. If i get him, he will be roomies with the 2 CX girls i have. They are bottom of the pecking order and need separated. No eggs out of those 2 yet, they are over 6 months now.. hmm.

JC, I am a very confused woman. I thought a CX was a Cornish crossed to make a meat bird, and died of obesity quickly if not processed by ten weeks. How are people keeping them long enough to lay?
Speaking of which, when will my EE and my Ameraucana start laying? Cadbury is 10 months, and Midnight is 7 1/2 months.

Silkies are fun, but around here they need to be able to see.

What is CX? I thought it was Cornish Cross, but people don't wait for eggs, they eat 'em.

Yup cornish cross. Hehehe my daughters... tank and LilX were spared. Tanks is a huge docile loveable fat lap bird.. LilX is the pigs "pet" and never grew. She may be 2 pounds or less. skin and bone. Anyways, the girls and my hubby didn't want to butcher those 2. Everyone loves Tank, and LilX rides around on the pigs. she used to sleep with bacon

but he is too big now. Here they are...

Wow, MC they aren't laying, that's wild. It may be the timing, when they reached POL the winter may have delayed them?
