Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I didn't know that your hatch is likely to have roosters in it! Huh!

I have always wondered what hatcheries did with the boys. I know that egg plants grind them or toss them alive into the trash to suffocate. That is more of a "why I raise chickens" thing. Because I am keeping boys and girls for eggs and meat. And I am curious about the author making it sound like a bad thing to eat your chickens.
Anyhoot! 11 eggs so far. One jumped under my foot, and went "crunch". A few "dogs with wings" or as I call them, biker chicks, cleaned it up for me.
And I am not mean for not adding heat. If I see frostbite, it is my fault, and will correct the problem.

same here! million dollar security systems?? Heating/cooling? Automatic locks? $2 per egg, and anything less is cruel????

Greeting from the frosty northeast! it's so cold... and I'm not one to complain about it... but the heater in the LLV postal truck is lacking in general, but it didn't work at all in the truck I had today. 5 hours out in below zero... my feet were freezing within the first hour... I had so much mail, and so many parcels... and this route has had the LLV truck for over a year, don't know if the carrier is carrying some unrealistic wish that the PO will let her drive her own vehicle again someday or what... but she hasn't made a single change on her route. all her boxes are like 2 feet too low! I spent all day hanging out of the window. cold right to me bones! took a hot hot bath when I got settled in...

so windy, one of the straps broke for a sheet of vinyl and it was half peeled back... nice and light inside, but mighty chilly, that was a quick fix tho', thankfully... 2 eggs for the day. Betty and Blu... I like being able to see who laid so easily, the only ones I can't tell apart are the RIR's. and soon... I'll have so many colored eggs...

MC, that's cool about the lifeguard work... of course, I was a lifeguard as well. I started swimming competitively when I was 2. I had just learned to swim properly that summer... lessons and all, and there was a day of races, so my swim teacher said I should swim in the 5 and under race, but I couldn't use a bubble (remember those? put the styrofoam block on the kids back and face plant them right in the water! great product

) I wanted to swim in the 5 and under bubble race... but it was either the no-bubble race or NO race. so I swam. I won. I beat all those big 5 year olds like I was born to swim. I got a trophy that was almost as big as me... so I swam competitively for 22 years. AAW, State, College... never had the ambition for the Olympics, which annoyed my mom... I was also on the diving team. I was a busy kid. I also took horseback riding lessons and rode dressage and jumped in competition. during the summer, I sailed, racing with my dad, and in the winter, we did "frostbiting" which is sailing in little O'Day Icy Dinghey's, 2 man boats, well, 1 man, 1 smaller person... we capsized one year, I got frostbite inside my ears. to this day, I cannot take wind in my ears, even warm wind. gives me an instant headache and my neck locks up... (cracks when I crank my head around...)
I'll have to go up to the attic one of these days and get an old photo album so I can scan a few pics... I fenced as well... got to go to England on a Volvo scholarship of all things... for this artsy program, studied Shakespeare and William Blake in great depth and got to learn to fence... made a team for Regents College in London...
wow... reading that all over again... no wonder why my mom shakes her head when she has to tell people that I deliver the mail... I should still be doing some crazy high stress high power something that makes tons of money... but I just am not that person anymore... I want my simple country life, in a small town on the mountain, and an easy, yet good job... where I don't have to be stuck in one spot all the time... and raise chickens. it was such an attainable thing, and I still work too hard, lol.

ACW, so glad to see activity, even if it isn't here on this thread yet... sure do hope it's you, but if it's a family member/friend, I hope to hear some hopefully good news soon! up til this, you hadn't been on for almost 2 weeks...
