Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I don't know why,, but I cannot get a response in my Cross Beak thread. Cadbury has FF in her beard and chest feathers. It is hard as a rock, and I cannot get it to soften, and wash out. I tried cutting it, but she flipped, and then I nipped her. She is fine having her beak trimmed, so I don't know what the problem was. I do know the weight of the food has to hurt. So, anyone know what I can do about it?
OK, you did read the other post about the new coop being for a trio, right?

Dish soap helped with stuck poo. Maybe it will work for you

Cadbury hated the bath. Dawn didn't work. I spent about ten minutes washing her. No luck. I have Goo Gone stuff, and if you thing olive oil will help, I will try that.
JCH, I am glad I can be useful.
Another month, another trash bill not received. DH's father sent him a b-day card 2 weeks ago. PO swears that they deliver all mail. Too bad we are not the only ones missing mail. Not to mention, with 2 houses and 2 mailmen, I still get the wrong mail.
The coop is... Coming along. I got all the wire off that I could. A few staples came out. The hardware cloth is fastened in the middle under some boards. I either have to take the hutch apart, or be very good at getting/covering all metal. The neighbor came over to bother me. I knew she would. I really hope the next time I go out is quieter. I really don't need the problems she brings me.

I forgot the JGs had yellow feet. I am going to go out and tickle their feet later. Okay, look at their feet.
The dog peed in the bathroom again last evening, and pooped in the office overnight. IDK what his problem is. I know his haircut has him nervous. He got like this the last time too. Not with accidents. But I do remember he was anxious, always wanting attention, burrowing his head under my arm. Silly pup. The groomers laughed when he was done. They couldn't get over how tiny he is under all his hair.

One of my main chores this weekend is to trim up Scooter. He's a mess right now and keeps bumping into things because his hair is too long! Supposed to get up to 70* so good time for dog baths.

Pic from last summer. Too embarrassed to show how he looks now. First (and last) long haired dog for me!

Good luck on the coop MC. Hope the neighbor doesn't stop by to help!

Cute pup, and cute emoticon. Small dogs are usually $30, but I went to PetCo, and they charged $55 for the cut, and $5 to shave. Cutting requires skill to get it even. Shaving requires you to go "zwoop!" I was also confused about them assuming he was all matted. He had a snag under his collar, but even they said that is to be expected. I wish I could find a good groomer for this stupid dog. I have been looking into getting the appropriate (quality) clippers and doing it myself.
I just showered. That is my excuse for not going back out to work on the coop for a while.

How high is your fence, and does it keep the chickens in? I am planning on a six foot fence without a roof. I can move the stakes when I want to change the area, and it costs a lot less (as you know) to just put up a fence. I know the hawks can get 'em. I will worry about that when it happens (and then my worry will be "what kind of chicks am I gonna get?"). I really just need them to stay in the yard.

The shortest part of the fence is 5 feet. So far the only one who has flown over it is the goofy Leghorn. I have a lighter bodied wheaten Ameraucana that could probably get over, but she won't leave her heavier half sister. If there are some shrubs or low trees where you pen them, they can hide from hawks. You can even make a quickie shade structure. Mine usually are under something rather than being out in the open unless I am out with them.

Goofy? Me? Have you looked in the mirror lately?

She's rude too. And has poopy-butt. Goofy, rude, and poopy-butt, but a good layer.

I'm too cheap frugal to take Scooter to the groomer. I give him a rough cut with scissors, bathe him and then intend to use the clippers after he dries, but never get to the last part, so usually do a bit more trimming so he doesn't look like he has mange. He's not too bad about it, except for the bath part. It's amazing how strong that little punk is when he's trying to get away from the water!

One dozen eggs, 2 cuts and three or four scratches. I also had dirt (thank God it wasn't metal!) fly into my eye during the half hour the neighbor was bugging me. She was nasty about it. I dropped the pliers (she didn't know what pliers were!!) and she just wanted to call me Butterfingers. She finally left after asking if I would give (GIVE!) her Maran hatching eggs after I told her what they sell for. I could go on .... I will!
She thinks people will come running if she offers to sell hatching eggs. Her only rooster is a Silkie.

And her mother is already wanting to get rid of the chickens and turkeys. It is a thing with them. They get birds, then give them away shortly after. ANYWAY!
I got a bunch of staples out (wet wood helped) and half of the hardware cloth off. I just have to figure out how to get it loose from the center, and then I think I will leave the other side. I know it is the easiest part (compared to chicken wire) but I cannot take much more of the neighbor. I so want to tell her mother (really her aunt) to keep her away, but the price is high. I cannot tick off my husband's cousins.

Thank you for letting me vent. Speaking of vents... I don't think Penny has been laying. That is another story.
JCH, how are you doing with your project?

Thank you. How do you cross out a word?

double routes went smoothly... mail was fairly light thankfully... it won't be on Tuesday... a day after a Monday holiday is always heavy... but our local county paper gives away a copy to everyone every year, on the Tuesday after Presidents day... no matter how many Post Masters call and beg them not to do it on that day... the week before, the weeks after... shoot... a month after! but, they never listen... so, during mail count, and a holiday onslaught, I will have several hundred newspapers to give away. Unfortunately, they are not labelled as for address or name, so they do not count towards the "count" they are a "box holder", so regardless of the fact that I am delivering hundreds of them, it counts as ONE. and I have to do a double every day next week, my route in Gilboa, and the route in Jefferson.

So, even tho' I was super tired... I knew I had to clean the chicks crates tonight... well, the little buggers wouldn't get out of my way to clean. they were hopping on my arms, on the scooper, on my shoulder... I tried giving them a little fresh water and feed to see if that would calm them down. Nope. they made it impossible to clean. SO! snap decision! Out they went! into the portable run, despite the work that needed to be done. I had daylight on my side for a bit, so I just did it. they squaked and bawked, but two by two I carried them out. After they were all in, I got a bale of straw, half of which would fill the dome nicely, and gave them a full half. the portable run is less than half the size of the dome... so they have tons of straw. Later, I plasticked off the open space that you will see in my photos, and covered the door. yes, that is a bit of snow in the back corner, but they were fascinated by it and eating it, so I left it... it's pretty cozy in there now. and I have a short day tomorrow, and I'm off on Sunday and Monday, so I can look after them as the temp is going to drop tomorrow. I let the gang out, and Si was the first to discover them. the white chick came right to the gate and checked him out. Si was very interested, the rest gave a look, maybe a second look, and went about their business... Si stood by the door almost the whole time and cooed to them. I love that bird. I think he knew that they were chickens too. so I snapped a couple of quick shots, but I really had to get the run covered better, and then get to cleaning out the crates and cleaning the kitchen. my date is late... but that's okay, I needed the extra time to make the house a bit less ... pungeant.... Pine Sol is so great for that. it smelled a lot better as soon as all the birds were out, but was still honkin' stinky. I washed the crate trays, vacuumed, washed the crate trays again, pulled all the feed bags that lined the sides out, tossed them.... and suddenly, it smelled like Pine Sol! it was getting towards dusk, and Peachy is still in there... so I tucked the one egg that popped out back under, she hadn't noticed, but did her little shifty shuffle to get it back proper... and I shut the light. So! no more chickens in the house (except for Peach, and she's a banty, so she only counts as 1/2 a chicken) Phew! now, for a nice supper with a new beau! he should be here any minute...

here's the chickies in their new home

they've been up on the roosts, and kicked the straw around some... first time experiencing dirt... although I covered it up with straw... tomorrow will be fun. my friends will come up in the afternoon so we can let them all out for a meet and greet!
