Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Sally I will get pictures soon. Rain has stopped and it's really a mess around the new coop and run. Need to trim the doors and windows and clean up around the perimeter of it so it will look nice. Building a few nest boxes out of materials left over. Was working on that tonight when I got home. A few things here and there. OH....need to paint the outside too. Pictures coming soon

RR, if you're planning to hatch... I say wait til you get a few of your own, then choose to keep the one that gets along with Fran the Man if you plan on keeping them together, if you have separate quarters... then you keep the one you like the best...

SBMom,

how old is he? doesn't sound particularly dominant... that can be a good thing especially if he's watchful over the flock.

I'm picking up a few birds tomorrow, I delivered them as chicks in April, and she ended up with 2 roosters, and 2 LF when she had ordered all bantams. the LF are RIR pullets, 13 weeks old now (I think). one of my colleagues keeps chickens, her son is very attached... they lost 2 a couple of weeks ago, they're not sure from what, they were lying dead in the yard. her son is still pretty upset. so he is getting the 2 pullets. the 2 roosters are Mille Fleur, I'm keeping 1 here and placing the other at my second flock in Gilboa. she's a nice lady, she's here on byc too (I wrote the website on the box for her, we chatted quite a bit that day...) I'm glad I can help her out.

11 eggs today, lots of frozen treats to keep the gang cool, it's not bad up here if there is a breeze of any kind... in the early evening it was quite still and very uncomfortable. it's cooled down since thank goodness...

Chester is doing great, he's got his new routine down pat, has shown all the kitties that he really is gentle, even the chickens don't flip out anymore when he hops up on their maple chunks and cruises down the length of their dome. Ruby will walk with us as long as I clip her imaginary leash on... I run my hand around her body and snap my fingers... every now and then I have to give a tug on "nothing" and she comes right along.`
