Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

OK, Little RK Broody will do well regrowing her feathers over the next 2 months while she sits and then rears without anyone pestering her. Peach looked dreadful when she turned broody in February... by April she was looking great, just a few more feathers needed, now she's glorious. plus she had that huge injury with her slashed open back, which healed and refeathered too. I would love to see pictures of a nekkid spread out broody!
OK....I will get one tomorrow. That's request is dangerously close to.......never mind. One nekkid spread out BROODY coming right up. Bet the BYC police is on high alert

Got another egg today!! 2 hens, three eggs in three days. Not sure which of the two are laying, but I don't care! Only trouble is, the dog ate my egg!

I put it in the empty treat bowl on the ground (I know), to break up a fight in the coop. When I turned around to pick up the bowl, the egg was gone and so was the dog! Guess I shouldn't have been feeding her raw eggs all these years! Lesson learned!

Congrats on everyones eggs today! Pretty blue ones too! Cheeka, have fun with your precious grand daughter! She will remember these times with you forever!

So here she is, the very determined broody.

Her friends are very concerned...

... that she is getting extra food.

Friends rally 'round and plan a break in...

... so they can eat her food.

Last time it only took 3 partial days in the cage to break Poppy of her broodiness. This is the 3rd time this summer, and she is too thin. Considered getting some eggs for her to hatch, but I don't have an easy place to keep her with chicks.

Speaking of chicks, here are the new Serama girls in the ground cage we built last week. They are much happier now.

4 x 8' and both sides of the top are hinged to open. Keeping the far side covered for some shade.

love the Serama chicks W4W, and that cage is nice - very spacious for the wee babies! maybe you guys could build another one for Broody to hatch her chicks in and stuff...?

Sully... you're list of minus eggs is almost as long as your collected eggs! jk!

I have 2 blue and 2 green eggs collected about an hour ago, Coral should be next, she's been singing, cackling and stomping around... impatiently waiting for the best corner. She has a very distinctive voice - I got a video, she's not nearly as loud as she normally is, probably the camera in her face... but I'll get it loaded later today. She's my Machine Gun Peacock...

I'm an even lazier green person, I don't can, and I don't eat canned food from the store. except for like one can of corned beef hash once a year.

I can honestly say that I am not into canned food either. Most of my shopping is done on the outside edges of the store. I do buy my pasta and sauces. Oh, and Mexican stuff. Chiles, Enchilada sauce and tortillas. My sister gave me a bunch of canned fruit a year or so ago. I keep forgetting I have it.
Not canning isn't lazy. Unless you have a big garden (or fruit trees) canning can be a pain. Big batches makes it worth the while. The "intro to canning" kit I have said to make three jars. Seriously? All that work for just three cans? Hah!

Canning is a blast, and MC I totally agree that if you do it...might as well do it big. I canned pickles, jam, and jelly this year. I had an abundance of strawberries and cucumbers. I also made sauce today and was originally going to can some but the recipe wasn't too big and I am going to end up with six extras at dinner tonight so I won't be canning anything. I love the garlic dill pickles and I am really impressed by the strawberry jam I made without pectin. I made mint jelly with pectin and wasn't fond of the pectin part and how jelly like it is compared to the strawberry...but I used the one that didn't firm up as a base to make mint mojitos. I want to try doing a mango jalapeno or something spicy and sweet.

So the nester last night is out and about today so I think this might just be her behavior. My husband just told me that they all supervised him changing my brakes on my car.
Five eggs so far today. I have to get pictures of the babies on here soon. They are huge!

I saw Heritage BR eggs on auction last night...I am sad waiting for my eggs.

I almost ordered them and then stopped myself because it would be silly of me.
