I took Ratchet to the vet today for shots. He weighs 14.8 lbs. He kinda snapped at the vet when she stuck him. He is already old enough for his rabies, so they gave that to him. We are going to give him a whole series of the puppy shots, since I don't have records of the ones that the breeder says they gave him. I also went ahead and got the next 2 in the series so that I can give them to him at home and not have to go back up to the vets office. I also took 4 dozen eggs to Hubby's uncle, and dropped off some kids clothes to one of his cousins. On the way home Ratchet proceeded to get sick all over the van... YUCKY!!!!

I ended up with 10 eggs today, but was only down at the coop 3 times! Normally I go down there several times a day, but I wasn't here! Here are some pictures out the car window! These are from one of the counties I grew up in! (parents were divorced)

double digit day! still only 1 egg from the Fosters, I know at least 2 are laying, but never on the same day.
very brief free range with the dome occupants only... that my not be 'fair" but I only wanted to be out there for so long... I'm supposed to see snowflakes tomorrow, no more than 3", hope to have a quiet morning so the whole gang can come out for a bit.

Forgive me,people. For I have sinned. It has been less than two hours since I said I would not get or hatch chicks this year. I just called to see when Chick Days starts.

I made a bunch of calls too. I just gave up! There is no cure...

This little dude (well hopefully dudette) doesn't have any feathers yet. I think all his energy is going towards his cheek muffs!!

GRRrrrrrrr.... I was so proud of the chicken curtains that I put up today. Did the girls??? Heck no!!

We just got home from the boat show and 3 of the girls were outside staring at the coop door.

So... I took the double set of curtains down. I tried to make the girls happy and comfy with more privacy, but I am not going to force the issue. If it ain't broke, it won't get fixed. I will check on them in a few to see if they decided that it was safe to enter the coop again. Penny did lay an egg.

Help! I can't seem to stop buying/hatching chicks!!! I took a class offered by the University of Florida today. "Chickens 101". Great class, very informative. One of the speakers brought chicks

Luckily most of them were bantams and since most of my chickens free range, I thought they would be an easy target for the overhead threats. So I got a BO, 2 runner and 1 harlequin ducks (but they were so cute!), 1 something I don't remember, and 5 BR's. Although her chicks had more white than black and my last batch of BR babies were mostly black with a little white on the underside. It will be interesting to see how they feather.

Janet, I wish a speedy recovery to your brother. You can't seem to catch a break. You are a wonderful sister!

W4W, good to see you are finally getting some rain! I bet your chickens will be dancing in it!

Lindz, beautiful scenery! Your puppy is so cute!! Try spacing the puppy vaccines out by a month. It is easier on their systems. If you can separate them, you will be able to determine if any of them cause a reaction. There are some great articles on vaccines in Dogs Naturally Magazine if you are interested.

I got 18 eggs today!!! The closest I have come to perfect from 20 current layers! Things are picking up!

EIGHT......Today We Laid EIGHT Eggs

we laid 1 pekin. 11 quail and 2 chicken. My grow out quail are laying, I better get busy!
I need to get them in the freezer.

Sully, x2 what OK said...I sure hope not tho'... but they are good eating and you may end up with a nice one to breed with...

I would take Roger for a ride in my truck like I did when she was a pullet but I know as soon as she does not get her way she will poop on the seat. Too cold to let her ride in the back and she will fly out if we pass a Wal Mart. So I guess I will forget that idea.

I wouldn't have got caught if they didn't turn off those motion activated doors. I have a better plan next time. I need you to create a disturbance on the other side of the store. I will take care of business in the produce section. When its time to haul out of there I will set off the fire alarm. That way they can't turn off the doors to get out. What are you doing this afternoon?

Roger... always scheming ~ I still want an offspring...

it's sort of mild out this morning, around 16* with no wind. I plan to wait until noon to let them out, hopefully it will reach 20*. we got a dusting of fresh snow overnight. looks pretty out there.- but I want lots of coffee and relaxation this morning! actually watched a half hour of old Looney Tunes cartoons this morning, been years since I did that (without a child around...)
