Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

lindz, I don't know what to make of the Marans - unless she is laying and they aren't as dark as you expect? I know the first eggs you got were pretty dark, and I was surprised, because my Marans took a couple of months before their eggs darkened...

the bantams are laying! don't think Henry has fertilized them, but it's nice to see that they aren't too stressed by the move.

broody is sitting low and flat. I didn't bug her. if any are to hatch, they should in the next 1 minutes to 24 hours.

I left Big Broody alone - I hand fed her, and she does still have the 3 remaining eggs... I won't bug her til tomorrow afternoon. I'll take a peek in the morning, but when I get home from work, I'm getting in there. I will let her keep the eggs one more day, but I'm not sure beyond that... it's been rough. she can do another round if she insists. I have fixed her pen so water cannot get in the nest no matter how hard it pours.

other than that, it's been quiet. raining, windy, chilly... and it was a definite tornado yesterday, I forget the rating, but it was pretty big, nat'l weather service people were all over the foothills surveying damage. no reported injuries is the biggest relief.

21 Eggs today and a very aggravating call from of all people... old BH. I'm not heartless, I tried to be nice. omg, nothing changes. so I had to cut him off, end it, hang up. ugh. I'm still bugged. I should make some cocoa or a dish of ice cream... yeah...I can't be annoyed and eat ice cream at the same time!

Ahh ice cream!!! If it doesn't fix the problem it sure makes it easier to deal with!!

Lindz-your marans lack of eggs is a mystery!!!

I've got three babies so far. I'm revising my guess on the first. I think it's a blue not black as the last two to hatch seem like they're much darker.

I hope I get a little more color variation. I love the buff laced or silver laced so hoping I get a little more variety!!!

Was expecting the next nest of 5 serama eggs to hatch tomorrow, but when I checked this morning, one was already out and almost dry! Looks just like his daddy did when he was a chick. Later this afternoon, another was out and a third egg mostly zipped. The hen is off limits until tomorrow morning, when I'm sure there will be a race up to the coop to see the new babies. Suspecting it will be like Christmas morning, with boys sneaking around at the crack of doom to see the gifts!


Cheeka, the thought of a tornado is terrifying. Glad to hear no one was hurt.

If I were getting an extra brown I would know that she was laying. The only odd eggs I am getting are cream colored and they are on days when I only get 5 brown ones so I think they are from one of the comets and aren't getting as much tint. It is so frustrating to not be getting any from her. That one egg was just a tad bit darker than what the comets lay and I would love to get more of them!
