Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

yes they can, but if they turn their beaks up, steam it a little...

18 Eggs and a really stupendous afternoon of free range. I'm pooped from circling the property, but it was so great.

now you see it

now you don't! she just completed Day 7. Peach, Day 13.

so tonight hubby and I were pouring chicken food into the containers I keep it in to keep it fresh and easy to pour into the feeder. The girls were out and the dog was also out with us. We weren't paying super close attention because the dog has been good with the girls since they got bigger.

Then we heard a squawk and flapping and turned around to see Penny and the dog running away from each other. As a knee jerk reaction we scolded the dog heartily and Penny was a little stand offish for the rest of the afternoon. I didn't get a close look at her but she seemed completely unharmed.

We don't know what happened. It might be that the dog lunged at Penny. Or it might be that the dog was minding her own business and Penny snuck up on her and scared *her* which caused her to whirl around which then scared Penny. I don't think she tried to bite her, but then again like I said we had our backs turned.

Penny is fine. At bed time she was her usual blonde self and I had to guider her into the run and she started to go the wrong way so I grabbed her and tossed her in...but I didn't feel any blood or anything while I had her in my hands.

Is it weird that my girls don't seem to have a pecking order? I've never seen them so much as look sideways at each other. Some of them used to spar with the roosters when we had roosters but now everyone just gets along. I keep reading posts where people can identify who is the head hen and who is lowest in the pecking order and mind all seem pretty equal to me. They must have something figured out...but they certainly don't show it.

Crazy birds.

No eggs.  No disturbance in the nest area.  No squatting.  Plenty of pie.
my chickens dug into some weeds I snatched from the neighbors yard (I never thought I wouldn't have enough weeds in my own yard!)
Limin spent a good time crouched and straining for this one this afternoon/evening. It's next to her first egg.

Another successful integration. All babies are running w the big girls. At 4 weeks old they are holding their own and are getting along great. I worried about the 4 that aren't Squirts cause they have no mom protecting them. But after a week in the pen in a dog crate the transition was seemless. Need to take a pic tomorrow cause it's so cute to see them out!!!

nice egg subhanalah! might be a double yolk!

CLindz, pictures!!! I want pictures!!!

it was a lovely afternoon here, a bit hot, yet not too bad... someone is blowing off fireworks on the back hill and Chester is barking his fool head off!! I got some nice pics of flowers today, 3 different gardens. I don't know the names of some of them, have to ask on Monday, and my Facebook community page is having a mini explosion today with a few big pages sharing my bitty one... it's kind of staggering...
