No eggs. No squatting. Lots of dirty looks when I didn't let them out this morning when I peeked into the nest box to see of they had even bothered to check it out (they haven't). Look at how red Maggie is though. Ungrateful brats. I bet they hold the eggs in til I go on vacation.
I've got 6 out of 7 squatting and get an egg every 3 days or so, since they started Jun 6.

I'm down to 6 eggs today.... not sure what is up with the girls. I'm down from 11-14. I have kept them in the run the last few days except for a little supervised free range. All the girls are starting to look really raggedy so I think I am going to have to send a roo to freezer camp. My aunt has some new babies from her broody silkies. I'm hoping Harriet hatches at least a couple. She has 2 days left before hatch day.

What do you consider "laying age"? Do they not have a proper nest box with a fake egg or golf ball in their coop?
And what breed are they?

I have 10 that are 8 months old (1 polish, 2 silkie 2 BCM and 5 EE) that lay either in the nests, in a fake nest in the corner of the coop or in the roof of our outdoor well. Now the 2 silkies are just getting over being broody or raising chicks. The next 8 are 21 weeks old (4 olive eggers, 1 GC, 1 BCM, 2 white marans) and they are just starting to lay and are my suspect hiders!!! I forgot I sold 2 so instead of 20 I have 18. The younger 8 live in a separate coop and while they have nests too they have decided they like to lay in the other coop where their big sisters lay. It's kinda coop!

I'm just ultra sensitive because I've found 1 outdoor nest.

Not all of the younger 8 are prob laying tho! What was really cool was this evening one of the OE was not going inside to bed and had a really weird look. In the two seconds I turned to lock the big door she popped out a soft shell egg right there and then ran up the ramp. I was so mad I missed it by seconds!!!

I'm hoping to sell two more babies tomorrow and one of them is squirts. I was feeling really bad but squirt must not cause tonight she left them on their own and went into the coop to roost!!! Poor little guys!!!!

when I was coming back towards the property during a doggy walk, I heard lots of clucking. lots. so we kind of hustled along... and Egg #22 had been laid. which is much better than a lurking predator...

morite, you crack me up.
