Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Hi MC! I word hatch in winter just because i don't enjoy spending the entire summer waiting for eggs! If I hatch again it will be even earlier than this time. I set my eggs in late Feb. They day I got them was sooooo cold. Brrr!

There is a hawk lurking around. I hear it screaming. Its really putting a damper on free range time here.

I put them away. Can't chance it. While I am on vacation they will be stuck inside anyway so might as well practice.

We have a hawk every now and then but I've seen the crows dive bomb him a couple of times to chase him off. Thankfully they're far enough away the crows don't bother my eggs... The whole two that are laid in the coop. I'm sure they've found the smorgasbord in the woods that I just can't find.

Scrambles do you mind if I steal the name smoke? I have a blue and black Americana pair and I'm thinking for names smoke and charcoal....

That is baby Mortie #3. Baby Mortie #1 also just had a birthday (their birthdays are close together) and baby Mortie #2 is a girl

Scrambles, Smoke's egg is so dark from the get-go, I can't wait to see how much it may darken over the next couple of months! just beautiful!

congrats on the egg PB! is that 3 total now or 4? either way - you now have enough for an omelet!

W4W, it's a slice of skinless, cooked potato. I know... potatoes are supposed to be sort of a no-no... but it was about 1 cup total for all 36 non brooding adults, (4 broody's here, including Esther...) I had no intention of giving any to the chicks, but Big Mama braved the flock and snagged some... so... her baby got some too, it didn't toxify them...

I just put the flock away, we had a great 4 hour afternoon in the sun... zero eggs so far from the Fosters, but they were lurking around their pen and nest just a bit ago, so I may yet get one from them. if I don't, it will be the first time for zero eggs from them since they resumed laying in January. I think I have 11 in the basket from the Dome.
