Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

PB, my sweet, we are merely suggesting that the people on the incubating board might know more than we do. we're trying to help you find people that can help you is all. I would think it would be quite apparent by now that there is no particular topic on this thread.

PB please don't leave, we enjoy hearing about your day and wait for eggs but like cheeka said it's the questions about building incubators we know nothing about. Unfortunately more questions aren't going to get an answer and when we don't answer you seem sad. It's fine to ask the initial question but once it's apparent nobody on here can add to the discussion you are trying for you should prob check a different thread for that particular topic.

Also please don't take offense if nobody responds to a specific post. We're all busy and jump on and off. I know I can't respond to everything.

Ok back on topic... Well the hawk topic... We chased off a hawk today. It was the closest one has ever been. So close that when DH scared it off by throwing a stone at it. I'll be buying him a sling shot for x-mas. I was totally freaked cause the polish are still small enough to prob be carried off.

7 eggs...still haven't found where they are laying (besides the 4 unapproved nests they already have). But I haven't gotten an egg from my white marans in a while. Little stinker.

FYI, did Zumba for first time today. Loved it!!!!

To add to my other post, I was going to suggest it would be cheaper in the long run to just get a proper incubator but I didn't because I know some folks like to build and tinker, and this sounds like one of the stories my dad likes to tell "When I was a kid, I...." but I agree with Cheeka. Maybe an incubator isn't the right project. Maybe there is something different you can build and tinker with instead of an incubator. Or maybe that can be a more long term project. You seem really desperate to make an incubator NOW. I just don't think that's a realistic first project. Take your time. You can't rush these things.

Also, as Lindz has pointed out, you can't take offense when no one answers your question. Usually on a forum like this when someone doesn't know anything, they just move on. You can't expect everyone to come right out and tell you they don't know. Actually, here, I'll do it for you right now. We don't know anything about building incubators. We've kindly suggested you try the incubator forum - not because we don't want you here, but because over there, they DO know how to make build incubators. If you ask a question and no one responds, they are NOT ignoring you, they just don't know.

Talk about your chickens, talk about your day, but just know that if you keep on asking questions about building incubators, they're going to be met with silence because we cannot answer them.

When does school start for you?

tomorrow should be a big egg day. 0 from the Fosters. 11 from the Dome. which is less than half. my older girls laid today, tho', 2 and a 1/4 years old and still laying around 4 eggs a week, just like last year. I'm glad they've never been super high producing, they'll last longer. the remaining RIR, Rose, has slowed down to pace her EE sisters, she was good for 5-6/wk last year. the Foster's are the same age, so, even tho' they all skipped today, they've been good for 3-4 per day out of 5.

Max is offering all kinds of goodies, but Mama is so suspicious of the mean little guy... he's behaved well around the chick, so all she did was puff up - lordy she's a beautiful hen!

chicken tongues are so neat!

went out to say goodnight, peep was peeking out the wing area, just one little feather out of place on Mama where its head was popped out, so I turned on the camera. poof! baby hidden.

so I asked Mama, "Where's your baby?"

and she did this:

I love her. really love her. speaking of love...

Sillie has tomato sauce in her beard. I gave them some ravioli for dinner. a can leftover from when Mylee was here... her poof is coming in nicely, can't wait for the pins to unfurl

don't be silly PB, we don't want you to leave, and you are always welcome to ask any question you want, but when the entire current population is unable to provide you more than a direction in which to turn, it's time to do some reading over there too. that's all. you might have questions down the line that are "off topic" to specifically waiting for your chickens to lay... that we may all have input on. most of us use broody hens to hatch out eggs, a few use commercial incubators. that's all our experience in a nutshell. we want you to have a fun experience on byc as a whole

Cheeka you must have a terabyte hard drive to store all your pictures in. Lovely as always! Love your chicks, makes me wish I wasn't so limited. I need to move.

I keep thinking every day is going to be a big egg day. Yesterday was, if one likes rubber eggs. Penny has been laying for almost a week straight so she is due for a break. Who knows what the wonder twins are going to do tomorrow. I am wondering if maybe my two rubber eggs weren't from just Wilson. I just can't believe that both she and Maggie (who has shown zero interest in the nest or anything, no squatting...maybe she IS a rooster) both decided to lay identical rubber eggs at exactly the same time. Maybe it was almost a conjoined rubber egg...i've seen those on here before...but they managed to be separated. Hmmmmmm. Guess it doesn't even matter much does it. What will be, will be.

yeah, essentially, my computer's entire memory is for photo storage, and like an old fashioned photographer, I keep all the photos. even the blurry ones. one would have all the negatives in the old days... about every 2 years, I have to put the lot on discs and clean out the files, make room for more. most days I take well over 100 photos, some days 2-300. someday, I want to publish calendars. some scenery, some flowers, some animals, some combos of all the above and of course... chickens. I could do a dozen different editions of chickens each year.

I delete my blurries but my files are like 4mb each so I don't like to keep those. I never delete anything else. I have been thinking we should make a sibeowio calendar. Everyone can submit a pic and we can get it made up on shutter fly or something ...it would be fun.
