Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I don't really count the pop door for ventilation. I made the coop the have enough ventilation *above* their heads as you say, for 4 birds. It was supposed to be just right, but then chicken math interfered. There is still enough ventilation for all 6 when there is not excess moisture...but when there is I'm afraid it's not enough. That's when I kinda have to hope the pop door counts for something as well. The "official" vents are up under the overhang of the roof.

Hi and Welcome ProjectC! we'd love to see some pics of your flock... take a few guesses as to when they might lay for you...

we got 4" of fresh snow, could have been a lot more if it wasn't so windy. seemed to be having trouble getting to, and staying on, the ground. I had 2 routes to do during all this crappy weather and didn't get home to do more than say goodnight. stupid Tommy D'Uccle jumped off the roost to kick me in the face, I saw it coming, so he only grazed my temple with a feathered foot. little jerk.

zero eggs.

Mortie that is exactly how my coop is. I have plenty of ventilation up high but I do use the pop door for some extra relief unless it's really windy and cold.

Thankfully here really cold for us is single digits.

Just to put it in perspective and alleviate some of the common cold weather worries.... My babies (about 10 wk) decided to sleep outside tonight under the coop. Last time I let them but tonight is suppose to be 10 degrees and was very windy so I picked them up to chuck them into their dog crate (which apparently has been commandeered as a nest box as I found 6 eggs in it...argh not free ranging and I still find weird spots)... Anyway... When I picked them up from the pile to put them away they were soooo toasty. Not a single one felt cold. So in general except for extreme temp (mortie's home area) and frostbite concerns there is really no need to worry about them being cold.

I plan on being home until Valentines Day. Dh messed up Christmas AGAIN. This time, I'm having trouble dealing with it. I am now getting my big gift for V-day, and hoping I can accept it. Yes, it sounds weird. It's just the way it is. Anyway! Steelers (his team) aren't going to the Super Bowl, so he doesn't want to come home for that and his birthday(the fifth). So Valentines Day is gonna actually be "celebrated" this year.
A long answer to such a simple question!! Lol!

I am lucky with my coop set up. The 12x12 is sorted into two coops and storage. The original coop is to the left. Then I have a movable wall. If I move it forward, the door to the big coop is inside the small coop. I open the small coop pop door in the winter (combining flocks if needed) allowing everyone access to go out, but there is still a toasty room that is blocked from the wind. Last year I made the small coop the feeding room, and added extra roosts to the sleeping room. It worked very well.

that is how ours works but we hve a poop door in both and it goes into a closed run

For the newbs. Here is a pic of my coop. The tall side facing into the run has the pop door and the big vent. The back side against the fence opens up completely for ease of cleaning.

Oh...yeah.

One egg so far today. Which I dropped. Actually I had to wash it because it was COVERED in poop, I don't normally wash eggs but this one was a special case. I laid it on the counter so I could wash my hands and it rolled into the sink and broke.
