Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

So today, I saw on of my bantams (I have two) in the nesting box, settled in for the long run. Never did find an egg her size, so maybe it was just a dry run. Also...Tomorrow I go to pick up two chicks. They are Silver Gray Dorkings, which I believe are about 2 weeks old now. So exciting!!!!!

Lucky you! Silver Gray Dorkings are supposed to be really nice birds. Have only heard good things about them! That's one of my favorite color patterns too. You most post pictures when you get them.

Poor you! Ugh. I can think of several million things I'd rather do. My brother gets this root killer stuff he puts down a pipe that runs under a willow tree. He does it any time he's going out of town so it can sit and work. Probably not the most environmentally friendly thing, but neither is having septic juice in your house. Digging up pipes to cut back roots is not fun.

It could be. Oddly enough, the smell was minimal. It seems like this happens more often than you would think. My lower level is not inhabitable right now. The adjuster comes today and we can move from there. At least now we can shower and use the potty. $$$$$ is flying out the window.

Apparently, our root problem was from the junipers that the previous owners planted ON TOP OF the septic tank.

DH ripped them out so that the pump out guy could get to the pipes. We wanted the Junipers gone anyway. We were set to rip them out in the Spring when the ground thawed out. Luckily, it has been a rather mild Winter and the ground is not frozen.
My cats are freaking out. Their litter boxes are moved... carpet is ripped up.... there are loud fans blowing and soon there will be strangers in the house banging away.

DH and I are going to try and do most of the work.

Scrambles, our neighbor was saying that their septic backs up every time we get a good rain. Happened to them back in Dec. Not sure what to do about it. Maybe the leach lines are clogged.

20 or so years ago, I rented a cute house on Long Island. my SO had two little kids. they both kept getting UTI's and then it got worse, they both got eColi. turns out the septic was backing up into the tub. Pops and I only showered, so it was only affecting the kids when they took baths. imagine. it was ghastly. the landlord scoffed, but the inspector proved it and it cost him roughly 30K between the fines and expense of digging it all up. we lived there rent free for 1 year as a result.

on the chicken front, we only got an inch and a half of snow, but it's enough to cover their yard. I'll go and clear some space for them and see if they want to come out. if not, I did pick up some mackerel in brine for a Pie...

So glad to have sewer right now...I suppose it comes with its own problems but usually you're gtg.

Shadow has been positively identified as our ameracauna layer. I knew it wasn't hedwig but I guess it could have been midge (who hasn't laid an egg since october). I was pretty sure it was Shadow though. Just found her in the nest box looking like she was bringing forth potential life. I waited around for 15 minutes out of her sight to see if I could catch her coming out to collect the warm, still wet egg. No dice.
