These are my Silver Grey Dorkings!

They came back out when I threw them some meatloaf.

Darina those babies are adorable!

Cheeka how can you even choose!! Lol! Throw the rest in an incubator.

Cute!

The one in front is a pullet. I can't see the breast feathers of the second one.

The two look practically identical. Between the breeder and I, we did our best to pick pullets. Most of the chicks from this hatch had pretty strong indicators of being females. I think they are awfully cute tto. Then again, I don't know of ever seeing an ugly chick. I do have one layer that I call "The Homely Chicken!"

This is how I would do my best in picking a pullet. Eeny meeny miney mo!

Tho I'm getting better about sexing polish before having to wait until they crow!

that Gossy... she loves her babies... probably believes every egg deserves a name... the shredded paper comes from a few sources, nice to reuse, recycle... I only put it in the igloos, they stay nice and dry, so it takes a good long time for it to break down, much like hay... in other areas, it would disappear in a couple of days... I get bales of it from a lady who is in charge of the local alumni association and also writes for the local paper. I get large bags of it from a guy who is the president of the school board and also a local judge, and then I get bags from the post office... and from my own shredded paid bills...

I don't have an incubator. the lady I got the eggs from has a few for sale, but I had to put my blinders on. I can't have one. I'd be overrun. the broody bug is contagious around here, so I'm sure someone will want to join in when I set Big Broody on her eggs tomorrow. my girls (all of them! no matter what pen) prefer communal nesting. I've got individual boxes, but they've turned the coops into giant nests. fine by me... they live in their runs. lay in the coops. and remember last summer, Peach and Gossy brooded eggs and raised chicks together in the same kennel.

it's the end of day 1. I wouldn't be surprised if the eggs take maybe a few days longer to hatch. we'll see how often she rises... here she's just been hand fed pineapple bits and seeds. Red was stealing the chunks of pineapple that I was peeling bits off of. he shared with the rest of the bitties that are in that pen. she's so darned cute. I have fish for her breakfast. she'll eat well.
