Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I got 3 eggs today. broke them all. I'm so annoyed. (at myself)

I got a reprieve for tomorrow, the guy I'm covering for 2 weeks doesn't leave til Friday and he offered to work tomorrow and give me a chance to rest. I took him up on it immediately. then I took a nap.

my favorite photo from today. it was so beautiful and sunny - we haven't seen the sun for weeks it seems... but then, the brightness just gave me a headache for the rest of the day. Flu is the pitts!
Beautiful!! I like this one much better than the last one

(poor toes). Enjoy your day off. Rest and feel better soon.

Scrambles - how come you're waiting 2 weeks to give her chicks? Is it because you can't get chicks before then?

Scrambles' strategy might be different, but I think it's good to let the hen go through the natural broody hormone cycle as much as possible. Letting her be broody for a couple of weeks might help her accept the chicks when offered. I messed up with my attempt last year, tried too early, and it didn't seem like she was ready, so I had to raise the chicks.

Of course both were cockerels.

Then again, there are hens that will take a chick almost any time and some that have zero motherly instincts, so it might be more of an individual thing. Still, I think it's better to work with nature.

Did you shock yourself inside the fish tank? Those kind of fried fish don't sound too tasty.

Oh I just wondered, I've seen people do all kinds of things aorund here with broody hens so I just was curious what her plan was is all.

Ok so here's how it happened. I had my whole arm in the tank, doing something on the very bottom. I was intently focused on what I was doing. My meaty upper arm just bumped the metal case of one of my lights and that sucker juiced me good. It really had nothing to do with the fact that my arm was in the water (I leave that detail in for effect, saltwater + electricity sounds so much more daring). A few minutes later, I shocked myself by touching it again while trying to sort of move it out of the way. That was when I unplugged it.

That's pretty scary, mortie. As much as science as I have in my background, electricity is the one topic that eludes intuitive understanding. I know how it supposedly works and all that, but still seems like hocus pocus. Dangerous stuff with a life of its own. Funny that the only time I've ever been zapped was cleaning the classroom aquarium in 4th grade. The plug for the filter was behind the tank, and while trying to unplug it, I got a zing up my arm. Luckily not too bad. I never told the teacher or my parents because a) I felt pretty dumb, and b) cleaning the aquarium was fun and I knew Mrs. Witchy (she was NOT, by the way

) would not let us students care for it anymore if she knew. Haha. Nine year old's logic.

Yes Mortie it was much more effective w the saltwater part. Knowing that you were alive as you must have been to post I did get a good chuckle at the "repeat" part!

What are you saving your voice for?

Cheeka that pic is absolutely stunning!!!

Well apparently someone didn't feel like waiting for the communal nest box today!
