Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I think I only had like one or two perfect days last summer. So far this year we've had several.

Must be the pie.

That or they feel guilty for not laying between october and february....
Our chances for perfection have only recently started...our Polish waited a year (?!?!?!??!?!??!) before she decided to grace us with an egg. And now she has the loudest egg song of all the birds. We know exactly when she has laid an egg.

Speak of the devil...there she goes.
Yay! An egg!

I think that my Polish could rival a rooster. Fortunately, her egg song comes mid morning when everyone around me is awake and mostly at work. My neighbors insist that they love it (what they really love is the free eggs though...I'm all about bribery).

I have one neighbor that we don't get along with. The ones to one side we FABULOUS but they're moving. I am SO upset. I wish I could like...pay them to stay. The ones on the other side seem to really hate us when we've never done anything to them. This started from the time they moved in 5 years ago. I wish I could pay them to move away. You can't always get what you want I know but how come it seems like half the time not only is it NOT what I want, but the total opposite of what I want?!

We were really fortunate in the neighbor department. I don't know if it helps that we are a young(er) family with a kid, and they are all our parent's ages, retired, and no grandchildren yet. They've all "adopted" my son, and it's good to know they are looking out for him. We did not ask them before we got chickens...we thought we would just deliver a dozen eggs and viola, they would love them. They found out about a month before they started laying, but since they didn't know we had them before, they were fine with it, and now they get eggs from us. We try to keep it quiet in the neighborhood because we *may* have more chickens than what is allowed in the city, but we have a big lot, and we take care of them so there is no odor. We are also really close to the water, so there is generally a lot of native bird noise...our girls aren't too intrusive. There is a neighbor on the street behind us that has to know that we have chickens, but I've never spoken to him. Hopefully he's okay with it. My DH has been encouraging me to take them some eggs, but I don't really want to open the dialogue in case they don't love them.

I can tell you it's not their ages lol. I live on a corner so my good neighbor is to the side of me and my bad neighbor is behind me. They are both my parents ages. Good neighbors love kids. Bad neighbor hates EVERYTHING especially kids. We share a looooong property line with the bad neighbors. We didn't ask anyone before we got chickens, they are allowed in my town and we are within our rights so I didn't figured I needed anyone's permission. I don't think the bad neighbors knew about the chickens until....the eggsong. The ones that really screech are kind of a problem.

You will all probably remember how I freaked out the day I knew for sure that my bad neighbors knew about the chickens....

We also have slightly more than we're allowed but we take care of them and no odor here either. If it wasn't for the drunken eggsong thing probably no one would ever know.

Before I got our chickens, I called animal control. There are no laws against them where I live and we are not even in the city limit. One block away at the bottom of the hill, there are mini farms, but we are in a different type of neighborhood. The locals refer to it as Snob Hill. Really? I also checked the CCRS and there is no mention about "livestock". They do however say that no animal can be bred for monetary gain. Shhhhhh..... don't tell them about the eggs. Heck... I've made a whole $27 this year. :)
