Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

wow that's a lot of rain! we have a few inches of fresh snow, but as we were in Albuquerque for the long weekend while it was snowing...we missed the mess and got back after roads were cleaned up.
forgot my camera because it was a spur of the moment decision to jump in the car and go. all my pics are on my phone... but we had a great time visiting family and friends, some I hadn't seen for 10 years, and many who hadn't seen Wrangler since last May when they left to come rescue me.

i had 29 hens and 2 roos, then i lost one one week, now last week i lost my baby she talked to us when we went in to clean the coop she keep all the other chickens out till i was done talking to me the whole time. last week we found her dead in the morning she was fine the day before, i took her to the lad to see why, they said she was egg bound, i am now down to 25 hens and we took to roos to aution to sell we saw he got the hen under the coop, looked like he was tring to kill it, now we have two roos that we have had since babies, now i need to find out if i can give them something not to get egg bound or what i can do, i only got 2 eggs today but yesterday i got 8 never more then that, last winter we had so many eggs we give them away

So sorry to hear about your favorite hen. The only thing I have heard that might help prevent egg binding is having plenty of calcium available, a big dish of oyster shell, since calcium is needed for strong shells and for the muscle contractions that push the egg out. I don't know for sure, but think it is probably mostly a genetic problem. What breed was your talkative girl? I had a barred rock that was like that, half chicken half puppy dog!

Black oil sunflower seed helps too.

she was a sex link the other one was a bar rock,
Sex links are prone to being egg bound if they are from a hatchery. Was she a red, black or cinnamon queen type? can you share picture

Hubs and I drove out to the ocean today to see the surf. It started pouring right about the time we got there.

Big surf today! I love that rock with the hole in it.

A little closer. Can you see the seagull above the rock?

Foam was gathering at the base of the cliff and the wind carried blobs up over the car.

Goat Rock State Beach. The Russian River meets the ocean here. In the spring, harbor seals have their pups on that sand spit.

The ocean is brown here from the muddy river water. It's been flooding! First time in 10 yrs or so.

This is a different rock with an arch in it. I didn't get a pic of Goat Rock itself (it's huge and doesn't have a hole!)

Hope everyone is warm and happy!

Testing... testing... anyone out there?

We are having a break in the rain which is a good thing... enjoying some sunshine. Pretty soggy out there. Should be dry until Feb, but the drought for my part of CA is officially over as we have already reached the seasonal average. All rain in Feb-May will be bonus moisture.

Only good thing about the drought is it has done in the neighbor's icky messy pine that is way to close to my house. The next one in line is not doing well either, so the beetles have probably infected it. Really cool pileated woodpecker has been thunking away up there.
