Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

wow! so much gone on all day! ACW, prayers coming from the hilltop too! I hope he recovers smoothly!

OK! that latest installment is fabulous! i'll get the gears cranking if i can... so awesome to hear that everyone had a great time!!!

i'm pooped! I started building Fort Clukz, the planned large permanent enclosure, yesterday afternoon and made major framing headway today, just came in at dark... but! it's gonna be awesome, made of entirely recycled material except for new hardware cloth and the nuts and bolts... it's gonna look like a hobbit airplane hangar. I am using the pipes from an old tarp carport. modifying the height has given me extra pipes for side bracing. the coop will be attached to the outside, leaving the interior completely available for chill time, although, the coop does fit inside nicely... i got a really good deal from the local lumber mill on handrail that was too short for most commercial use, but just delightful for roosts, the gang loves them already as i rigged them up in the portable enclosure... i should have the whole thing finished on tuesday,

Thank you guys for your kind words, it is appreciated....this guy IS lucky to be alive...hope he can come out of it...this is my chicken man...the one who has brought me many orphan chicks and my latest game hen...he roams the back roads in an ATV and rescues fawns and such that are orphaned, and takes them to people he knows will take care of it and release to the wild, imagine zztop with a chihauhau, half the state will prob show up at the hospital. cheeka that is a good idea - I think I have one of the metal frame things...and it would make a good snow barrier at the side of the coop (with a new tarp) pics?
Lots to do today - all the hummingbird feeders are low, I have a bushel of strawberry runners to plant, and about five trees to plant!

i do have pics of the project, first pics are just the piles of pipes, and i was by myself so i don't have shots of me cutting the pipes, the first set of legs to 28", cuz i don't need the enclosure to be 12' tall... and the original cross bars i cut to 34.5 inches... and re-drilled holes in the ends so they can be used for support cross bars, but i did get three rows up and did take a few pics... i figured it would be best to wait till it's either significantly built or completed and then post the whole thing at once... so far, it's looking pretty darn cool! AND, for 50 bucks, I can keep the borrowed dog kennel (gives me room for at least 6 more birds!!)
back outside i go! i'll be back in at dark!

Good idea, then you can post pics like it magically assembled itself! Brings to mind the home improvement shows where they cut to a commercial and fade out just as they make a huge mistake, and it's perfectly fine when they return to the show! Hmmm, how'd they do that! Lol. What a beautiful day! I'm back to my own home improvement show...I will edit for mistakes! :)

Roger Roger can't you see
Your extreme chicken wardrobe is breaking me
Feed price is up and you still want your dress
The pacifier wasn't much but it cost me no less
Little man has boots so you want some too
I'm sorry Roger...but a chicken shoe?
I knew you were different...what did they hatch
I suppose you want holes in them.. so you can scratch
All of this stuff so you can be cool
And make your dad BYC's biggest fool.

SEVEN......Today We Laid Seven

Here is a picture of my roost pole. I originally went into the woods to find a club to clobber Roger with and changed my mind so I converted it into a roost/rest pole in the run. Works great and free.

Very cool!

Rogers Dad found her shoes!

We just got anklets, that we can't help but peck
Roger has scratchin' shoes! Jeez! What the heck!
AND a dress, she's so spoiled, what a life that she has...
but we wouldn't trade this for all that she has!

We have 6 limbs in our house
strong, straight (and free)
but our new house is special
and deserves a small spree.
Mom's built it herself
from a old bunch of pipes
saved 600 bucks...
and can splurge to be nice.
the rail was 4 bucks
and looks really cool
hanging suspended as if floating
when y'all see it you'll drool!

got friends coming up tomorrow to help me really kick some butt on this enclosure! they tend to be slug-a-beds... it's gonna drive me crazy if they aren't here by 8am! I'm taking the day off to get this done... i promise to have pics posted shortly after dark tomorrow

We live the simple life in appalchian hills. Ain't got no money, but ain't got no bills.
Roosting in the coop seein bobcat slink by...watch him through the chinks in the planks set side by side.
Makes us nervous, instead of mellow, but we still wouldn't trade with that spoiled little roger fellow!

Ha! Yes, sight in confirmed a rather large bobcat actually on the poarch. Losses are cutting back since the chickens have decided to stay close to home and I'm letting all the dogs give chase in the woods ( I think I'm going to have to teach them to look UP when they loose the trail) :) fence may be the only cure for this...that and snow, so i can actually see the critter. I have to wonder when I read about people who say there roosters defend the flock, but often times the only one that returns to the coop....hmmm. I'm down to one mature rooster. :/ fortunately I have at least four that will be real lookers, and i don't have to make a decision on who gets pulled off the roost, too bad I can't find any of those feathers though...I could make roger some jewelry to clip into his/her hair....then teach him to crow...and lay an egg...how confusing.
