Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I zoomed in on the photo, and it appeared they were nudging each other, saying....here he comes, wait for it....wait....it looks about the size of the one I found chowing down on my eggs..totally grossed me out. So, when the birds are quiet, look carefully huh. Something is out there.

omg, that snake is BIG!

I think they were terrified, and hoping Dad would come and save the day, and he did! so they were just cheering you on!

my cats bring home baby copperheads... i've only seen one that was about 4' long, the ones the cats bring home are about 12". i'm not afraid of snakes, but copperheads... need choppin' up!
I think this was a Rat snake. One of the good guys. Not many poison snakes in this part of Kentucky. But I don't kill any of them. Not even Rattlesnakes i come across in the mountains of eastern Ky when riding four wheelers. Most of them come from West Virginia and have bullett holes in them from a encounter with ACW....lol......I tease you ACW you do have your hands full with all of those predators in the mountains and I love the fact that you defend yourself and your chickens.

I agree. They love nothing better than to mess with me. Knuckleheads

Yup, send all those crawlies your way, how did you know? Actually, the only one I killed was the one that found it's way into the coop. We have tons of copperheads...I could probably go find you one right now. When I was a kid, I got sick and tired of opening the feed bin and finding mice, the cats weren't getting them...so I went out and caught a bunch of black snakes and released them in the barn...they had no trouble slipping around in the hay bales finding mice...no more problem. One did grow well over six feet long. Of course the barn was no where near the chicken coop. (And usually you never saw them) I think they only hang around if they have a food source. PS. OK, your right, its a rat snake..but I know it can't get into your fort.

They have grown enough,
They are given the best
I won't take any guff,
Get up in that nest!
Mother longs to hear
The Egg Song so much
Come on my dears
let's make it a clutch!

I spy with my little eye; my Better Half peeking in the nest box today!

again yesterday.

Mommy has fed us, and loved us so dear, she's built us a home and run way so near. Our feathers are fluffy, eyes clear and bright, we should lay her an egg, perhaps by tonight! What will they be, a good true and brown, or maybe a green one, or blue could be found! We know that she's peeking, but rushed we won't be, our wonderful eggs as presents be bound!
