Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

They do seem less vocal as they get older, but I've noticed mine seem to do it to call the rooster over for an escort back to the flock, he comes running, down the hill, across the driveway..thunk thunk thunk thunk, over the rr tie through the garden thunk thunk thunk...through the yard...skids to a halt at the coop and crows. The hens runs over, then is immediately distracted by a bug or something, then they both meander back to the flock. He'll be dancing most of the way, her, mostly interested in sights along the way. Once in awhile he stops and turns his head slightly and gives me a long look, like...I AM important! Then, back to his rooster world. Comical critters.
LOL...thats funny and makes me second guess my decision not to have a rooster. Besides the way these nuts (hens) carry on like a peacock a rooster that crows a lot wouldn't even be noticed.

...lol... really the sounds of the egg song the other day were punctuated by peacock-like calls... it was so loud and really amusing... i wished that i had time to just chill out there for a while and listen, this ladies place is soooo nice, tucked into the woods, can't see anything from the road, and she has little runs spread around, lots of coops, hutches and pens... she has a little bit of everything, chickens, turkeys, rabbits and a big black piggy, dogs patrolling and keeping everyone safer. I've told her before that it's so beautiful back here, she showed me her gardens, all kinds of food and flowers... i have no garden this year... got swamped with work, and really had no time, and then with drought... i couldn't have hauled water anyway...

If Roger could talk she would say
Poor cheeka.... her girls won't lay
Tell her dad to hang in there
Sometimes this journey seems so unfair
No matter what she might say or do
Our bodies are part of the equation too
With songs and squats to show we are almost there
It really hurts when we think you don't care
Tell her dad they will come thru
We couldn't hold back eggs if we wanted too.
And one more thing dad...just a little white lie
Tell her dad its all in the pie

You should get the book "All New Square Foot Gardening" by Mel Bartholomew. It is a simple easy method of gardening that produces unbelieveable results and requires very little of your time. Your chickens will make the compost for you and be glad to eat whatever you have too much of. Every chicken keeper needs a garden.

Some of my younger birds don't lay till late in the afternoon sometimes. Isaac is here in Kentucky today so I might just watch it rain and love every minute of it.
