I got the chickies their next bag of food (grower crumbles) since they were at the bottom of the chick starter. however, the food looks gigantic. I don't see how they would be able to eat it... its such a big difference from the starter... do you think it would be wise to put some through the food processor to chop it up some for them?

they are 5 weeks old (I know I wasn't supposed to start the grower till 6 weeks but they were running low) the things look like rabbit pellets or something!

I'd go get more starter if it was me. I still have my ten 16 wk olds and three 7 wk old banties on Nutrena starter still. (20% protein)

I heard you keep them on the starter until they start to lay.

The lady at the feed store here in Texas that I bought my laying hens from said to keep them on starter food for about 18 weeks or until they start laying eggs.

I was told to keep mine on starter as well, until they are about 1 week away from laying then switch to Layer. About 18 weeks old.
