i
am thinking about a second career...

I have always wanted to be a paramedic BUT:
I am older
the program is over subscribed
very dangerous
cruddy hours no chance of day before i am ready to retire

BUT:
I am older and they hold spots for "mature" students
something new every day
fulfilling a longtime dream

what to do?

I say go for it. I read your other post about loosing your job, and you already have nursing training so it really isn't that much of a stretch. If its something you really want to do, you might regret it if you don't. Then, if it doesn't work out, you have extra emergency training on top of your nursing training and can add more to a resume.

If you can do it go ahead!!

I'm a nurse also but I am not an ER type nurse. I am way too high strung and can't take the stress. I am more of a pill pusher, hospice, office nurse.

Do it, If I can go for my CDL and be a school bus driver, then you can do it! I have a fear of driving by big trucks, so what better was to concur my fear than to be driving the thing I fear!
I will be home in the summer for my son, and off all holidays he is! I just hope I pass! I take the test (written) Some time next week! Go for it!
