I do not know exactly how old these little ladies are. I know they hatched together and are about 4 to 5 months old. Yesterday was the first time my rooster mounted Peppa. This is my first time owning chickens and I'm wondering if that means she will lay her first egg soon?

5 months is right around the right age for most breeds to start laying. Are the pullets letting the rooster mount them? They will squat down for him if they are willing, otherwise they will run away and squawk a lot when they grab them.

A rooster can and will force mating on pullets that are not of breeding age. If your pullets are being receptive to the roo then that is a sure sign of them being close to laying.

I'm not sure there was not a lot of squawking so I think she let him they have area they can play and avoid him when he tries that's what they normally do this is the first time he actually succeeded with any of them
