My opinion is not that of a super experienced chicken owner, but I love my buff orpington! I have a small mixed flock of 4 pullers, and the BO (Poppy) is full of personality! She's super friendly and curious. And she's a reliable layer.

I've read they can be "slow" and are often at the bottom of the pecking order, but that's not been my experience. And Poppy was a small, rather sickly little chick. Took some extra TLC to put her to rights, but she's def my family's favorite.

But I think @oceansunset73 is right. Depends on the rest of the flock.

Buffs are usually pretty, friendly and broody. My lone Buff orpingtons that came as a meal maker chick from Meyers is 2 yrs old now very pretty, not been broody yet and also not as friendly. My lone Leghorn is much friendlier which was known to be flighty. So maybe it depends from the lineage source, regardless she’s a great fit to my 30+ hens.

I love my buff Orpington, they’re a very friendly breed, they’re “alright” egg layers, They do tend to go broody and they make excellent mothers!

I have BO pullets. They are the friendliest of my chickens so far. They follow me around like puppies and run for me as soon as they see me. I'm hoping at least one will be broody.

My BO Daffodil was awesome! She was friendly, curious, and a great head hen in my mixed flock- not a bossy bully. Sadly she passed away too young from a respiratory condition, but if I get more chickens in the future, a BO would be top of the list!
