Ducks are VERY social. If you are looking to only get one duck, it will be lonely and sad if you are not giving it attention 100% of the time. Any duck in that situation would probably quack all the time (and all girl ducks can quack very loud). If your intention is to have more than one duck, Cayugas are nice ducks and if they are happy they probably won't quack much. In my flock there is always a "spokes duck" that announces potential points of interest - cat outside the fence - me showing up with treats - stranger getting to close to the yard - duck house is open and ducks are outside. This duck changes, but it quacks when these events happen. Other than that, all my ducks are fairly quiet and the list is in the signature... I have a few breeds including a Cayuga. My Cayuga, who has so far never been the "spokes duck", never quacks. She talks quietly and is very friendly with people (she is the dominant girl duck in my flock so is a little less friendly with the rest of the flock, but that is who she is, not because she is a Cayuga.)
