Should I get a friend for my goat? edit *Found one! Need opinions!*

Its not the same he has a play mate but not a herd. He is a very nice looking guy by the way:) I think all goats need at least one goat friend and like others have said another wether like him would be good.

They would have killed him anyways. They hated dogs/cats/goats/pretty much anything smaller then them. My neighbor once saw them trying to get at coyotes on the other side of our fence. They were very protective.

Bucklings VERY easily become wethers. A band, some time, and viola! -a wether.

Contact the owners of the bucklings and ask them to wether one for you. Most will. I don't know of *any* producers that don't have some wethers. Sad fact of goats is that most boys born don't (and shouldn't) become bucks.

When I was in 4-H, bucks weren't allowed. I'm sure it varies by club, but I would double check. The *only* boys allowed at our fair were wethers for the meat class.

Yep, make your own wether. I would think that most of the breeders in your area would have the needed tools to do it.

We don't need to breed here, to many goats needing homes. We get them, give them shots and wether what needs to be wethered then find them a nice place to live. Once a month we can go to a goat auction and what the meat buyers don't want we can usually get for quite cheap. I tried to out do the meat buyers once, that didn't work out well for my check book. Have fun with your goats!

I found a pygmie doe just a few miles from me. She sounds perfect. She has horns and runs around the yard just like Cody. I want to go out and look at her tomorrow if possible. Do you think this could work? If they don't get along she said that she would buy her back. What do you think?

It sounds like a potential good fit. I'd certainly go for it, especially since they lady is willing to take her back if it doesn't work. Just remember that it can take a week or longer for goats to figure out the 'pecking' order.

Just make sure that you give them enough time to get along! Let them establish who is dominant. Once they learn to get along with each other you will be in for some real fun goat antics.
