Should i get a pet rat?

General rule of thumb for minimum amount of space is 2 - 2.5 cubic feet per rat (unlike chickens, vertical space counts). If the rats are bigger, more space, if you have dwarves (rare) they can have a little less space.

Cages to consider: https://squeaksandnibbles.com/rat-cage-size/ has some nice options, or the brand that many breeders/enthusiasts use is Martin's: http://www.martinscages.com/rats.html (I have the R-680). With Martin's cages you will want to cover the ledges with something as rats can get bumblefoot with wire floors.

Might also want to look into rat rescues, if you happen to have any in your area.
Thank you and I read an article on the bumblebee foot and cage thing. And I was looking into the rescue a rat thing because so many ppl rushed into getting a rat and then gave up on them

My husband says, yes, by all means get a rat! He had pet rats when he was younger and they were the best pets he ever had!
My all the things I'm reading I really want a rat but since I already have chickens my dad still isnt on board with it so I'm gonna keep doing my research and give him a couple years before I get one. I'll make some money as well so he wont have to spend everything for it. But I think I'm responsible enough to win chickend and 2 rats lol

I think that's a very good attitude to have. Show him you can take good care of the chickens, save up some money, and keep doing your research so you can take good care of them once you get them. Even after I decided we'd get rats it was still another 6 months on a waitlist with a breeder. I'd like to try for rescues next time, but don't know when I'll be ready to get more.

A photo of the last boy we had, just because I love the Siamese color:
