Should I get ducks?

When I was very young, we had two pekin ducks that were SO cute... I don't even know if they laid eggs or not.

I am drawn to ducks for some reason. So far all I have is 2 stupid dogs and NO POULTRY. AT ALL. *sniff* poor deprived child

What do ducks do? How much do they need? Can you recommend any breeds? Thanks, all. Let's here about the pros/ cons of ducks!

but I totally agree with terrielacy, get ducks

I regret getting rid of my ducks and will be (hopefully) getting some more ducks in the spring

Ducks are great. Waterfowl have sooooo much personality!

My teenaged daughter kept asking for ducks, I said no way. We have too many cats and dogs the way it is! Then we went to a family 4th of July. I took one look at their babies and we came home with 2! I had husband and son build a small pen around the little goldfish pond that we no longer used and they also built a "doghouse" building for them. We have never had so much fun sitting on the porch watching Gertie and Frank grow up! The funny things they do leave us laughing every time! The cats sometimes get in the pen with them and check them out and neither the ducks or the cats mind it. Gertie even quacks at the st. bernard when she gets too loud! I wish we would have gotten them years ago!

Now we have a garage full of brooders and are finishing up the coop and run for the 28 chicks we have since then! Not to mention the 7 guineas we got this weekend! Birds are very addicting!!

After all is said and done, I'd suggest turkeys and/or chickens, and forget the ducks and geese. (plus big = messy) little = cute

I have 8 ducks total now and they are eating lots of food even by letting them free range around my big pond during the day..

If you live in an area where preditors is not a problem and the ducks can just stay around your pond then you will be good. In my case I let them out morning and put them up evening.. getting to be a pain.. plus not cute anymore...
