I am happy things are working out. Did you try adding a wet sponge to get the humidity up. Definately calibrate your hygrometer next time. My was off by 30 degrees low as I kept adding sponges...I ended up drowning tons of them!!!

oh goodness... now i have something new to be paranoid about!! pls explain the drowning thing!

i have all kinds of water in there. I dont get it! Nothing has been moved or opened as far as the incubator goes yet in the last hour or so my humidity went from 80% (well atleast that what it says...) down to 70% and my temp dropped 2 degrees celsius!

*sigh* im gonna have to invent a programmable one (just as your home thermostat is!) which will control both the humidity and the temperature! no more freakin guess work!!! and it wont just have to be available to the rich and famous lol like the really nice ones are today! same thing with the egg buddy. its genius but also $300 or $400! :-/

back to deep thought & tappin the fingers...

oh! and before I forget to ask again... when i was asking if i should externally pip my remaining eggs because i fear the membranes inside them could be keeping the chicks from progressing.. If the shell hasnt been cracked, would my humidity and dry membrane be an issue for them? or only a concern once theyve externally pipped?

it can be... if we knew for sure what your humidity has been then I would have a better answer.. as it is they SHOULD be ok.. the inside of the egg is more moist than the outside air (which is why your humidity will spike when eggs hatch).. so they SHOULD be able to internally pip (when you hear the peeping).. and then if they are not weak they should be able to do an external pip... the biggest problem comes from a chick who has made a large external pip and then is too weak to finish the job.. the humidity is too low and the membrane dries up and becomes tough.. then when the chick does finally have enough energy to try zipping it can't because the membrane is too tough to break through.. then they eventually tire and die

compared to all the drama over the past couple of days my incubator is eerily quiet! every now and then i can see some rockin but havent heard any peeps..
