Should I help?

X2

From the pic, that is the ducklings back and it is getting into position to pip...
You're right. It's been flailing around all day! It has moved dramatically since this morning and I think it is very close to being in the correct position. Down to 3 eggs now, one hasn't moved all day and the veins are no longer visible.

I keep my hum% at about 45 to 50.
then at lockdown let it go up as high as 65%.

for this batch I had the hum around 56% the whole time.
I had chicken eggs in with the duck eggs.
I had almost 100% hatch with the chickens.
the duck eggs are due around the 4th of July..

how many eggs are you dealing with ?

I am waiting for about 185 to hatch..

It was 8 yesterday four and sadly today 1. The one pictured. It's having a tough time and can't break the membrane.

like I said earlier, more patience, less candling.

the reason we stop turning the eggs is to let the creature inside orientate himself.
by picking up the egg and putting it down you are confusing the baby.
don't you have someone you can go visit for a few days ?
You have to leave those eggs alone.
they were distressed when you got them, so this is less than an ideal hatch.
you have to get used to the idea that not all eggs will hatch. you will have to develop the attitude"
If they make it, they make it,
If they don't, they don't.
and I consider candling unnecessary for a good hatch.
If it is done at all, it should be to locate any clear or bad egg for culling.
when I have a thousand eggs doing, I don't find a need to candle.
If I get a bad egg, it will let me know by the odor. I locate it and toss it. usualy it will be a cracked one.
If you want to candle, do it as you are first setting the eggs. then you can locate a cracked one early and get rid of it.
I have never had an egg explode in the incubator.

IMHO, yes it does. when it is done excessively.. as many on byc do.

It cools the eggs, the incubator cools down, and many of the incubators used do not have a fast recovery rate for humidity and heat.
you will never convince me that does not affect the hatch rate when it is done every day and sometimes more than that.

I've stopped turning it. This morning after not opening it for 18 hours I wrapped it in a moist warm paper towel. . Yesterday it was vigorously pecking at the membrane with no luck. Today when I candled it looks like that has stopped and the baby is getting tired. All veins are still prevalent and baby is moving but slowly.
