Should I install my window upside down (top opening)

I bought new windows for my coop (black) that I plan to install so I can open and close from outside the coop. I’m considering also opening them upside down so that the top section slides down and the bottom is the stationary pane. My reasoning is that the bottom is at roost height and will block cold drafts in winter, but if the top is open the cross ventilation will be over their heads. Thoughts?

There are usually drain/weep holes in the bottom of windows so if they are on top, now your water/moisture has nowhere to go. I'd investigate this issue before choosing to do this.

Oddly enough, these don’t have them but I was planning on drilling a few

I can see your logic about having the opening up high.
Not sure it would shed any precipitation properly and could end up leaking inside the coop structure.
Maybe give it a try, but be ready to change it back if needed.

What is your climate/location?

I’m middle Tennessee. With the overhang, I’m not sure the windows will get much rain. I’m installing them upside down today with the knowledge that I may have to flip them :). Thanks! (Using screws instead of nails. 🤣🤣. Easier to undo.

Did find weep holes and made new ones

Now that I have to black ones installed, I like the white better. But the black matches the surrounds buildings better so I guess I’ll keep them. (The surrounding building have dark gray, which I couldn’t find in this size)

Only reason I even suggested trying.

Always better to use screws!

I’m middle Tennessee.
Here's how to add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
