Should I Invest In a Security Camera For My Coops?

A dashcam might take a bit of rigging and you'll most definitely need a dvr. Id go with a wireless or wired ip cam that way you can use any hard drive as a dvr or you could try an arlo which uses cloud storage.
I could bolt it to the roof of my vestibule which is right outside my bedroom window. Do you think a dashcam would be a good to use as a security camera?

You'll definitely want something that records. Not knowing your layout, it's hard to articulate, but a layered approach works best. Flood lights with a motion detector in the outer layer and a camera focused on your coop run, something that does both IR and daylight. You don't want your floods washing out your camera.

I bought foscam which worked well for monitoring but I could not get it to record on the website and the help desk in china wasn't useful. It was very easy to setup and worked well on both computer and phone.

I don’t want the camera in my coops I want it aimed at them. Sorry if that was unclear. My window over looks my coops and I could place it on my garage door window panes. It does get cold in my garage though. The low tonight in my town will be 20 F, but it gets in the lower teens but usually only for a day or two.
