I have a gorgeous Black Orp Rooster and dont know whether I should keep him or not. He is generally very good with his hens - but there is 2 hens he HATES and is horrible to them.
I cant help feel sorry for the hens - they were here first. So would my hens be happier without a Rooster? Dont know what to do.

Unless you want to hatch chicks, you really don't need a rooster, though I love what they bring to the family. An Orpington rooster is generally too large for many breeds and may injure them. I love my Blue Orpington rooster, but he is about 14 lb and I can't allow him with my smaller hens, like the Ameraucanas. Roosters are great in a free-range situation since they spend most of their time watching while the hens pig out, but if yours are penned up, unless you want chicks from him, no need for a rooster.
