Should I let my broody hatch?

One of the eggs I wanted to use for hatching was cracked so I opened to check for fertility, and I didn't see a bullseye, but I didn't see a white dot either. I know what you are talking about because I've seen it before, but for some reason this egg did have any white spot at all....just yellow.

It happens, there is never 100% fertility all the time.

This is why it is a good idea to candle the eggs after a few days under the hen. For most people it is easiest to get confident candling results when the eggs are one week old.

Hmmm...that's interesing! I din't think I have ever seen one with no dot at all. I am assuming you rolled it all around looking for it? So with no dot wouldn't that mean at least that particular egg would not be capable of being fertilized?

I did roll it around a bit, but it broke pretty easily so it got all runny before I got a really good look at it. I stuck Dumbledore in with them this afternoon just for good measure. I'm hoping to get the eggs under her by Thursday.

Thank you! I have as many fingers and toes crossed as possible! :)

Here are some pictures of my set up. I ended up building the whole thing from scratch. It wasn't too hard and I'm satisfied.

To-be momma hen!

Great job! The only thing I would comment on is to watch the bottom of the wire- is a hen capable of pushing against that to get out?

Could even leave that setup if you wanted after she's all done, just move a future broody into that nest...

I thought of that...the bottom couple inches are buried in the sand. I'll be watching it. I purposely made it easily moveable so I can take it down otherwise I will be tempted to hatch way too often! :p

Why do you say that as if it's a problem? I cannot understand this......?????? ;)

It's probably too late as you came up with this idea on your own and even made this set up... you are PREPARED! Muuuaaahaha!
