Chapter One

Plot: a long time ago we went to war and we won but only chicago lived. the rest of the world was demolished. or so you were told. we were divided into 5 factions.every one was to be trained in some sort of weapon in case we were attacked, if by any chance there were survivors we needed to be able to defend ourselves.

- Abnegation ~ the selfless. they always give to others and are practically vegetarians. they wear white and tan. don't look in mirrors, they believe they don't need to see themselves. they are trained in knives.

- Candor ~ the honest. they never lie and always speak what's on their minds. they wear black and white formal clothes. they are trained in hand to hand combat

- Amity ~ the peaceful. they always see the glass as half full, are always kind and they work in the fields outside the gate. they wear orange and red. they are trained in pitchforks. (they do work in fields)

- Erudite ~ the intelligent. they are geeks that wear blue and white. they are the center of attention and leaders of us.they are trained in swords.

-Dauntless ~ the brave. they are kind of crazy and very brave. they are the police and protectors of our city.they wear black. they are the definition of crazy. they are trained in all weapons and tactics.

-And divergent. this is very rare and if they find out you will be killed. so don't tell anyone if your test results were inconclusive.

you are special, fear cannot control you and you are all 5 factions not just one.

one day the divergents will rise and bring back peace and harmony, but until then you need to fit in and stay alive.

Chapter1: The choosing ceromony.

Missy, a dauntless seventeen year old, who was born a dauntless and stayed a dauntless, and was a divergent, got off her bed and got dressed in some denim shorts and a black tank top. Her black tattoo of a vine stretching from her stomach around her back and to her shoulder was showing. She put about 10 or 11 knives on her. Today was the day that most young people would get their factions. If they were divergent, they found out yesterday. Today was the faction ceremony. She was going to have to train so many new dauntless people, and have to choose which ones to cut . She pulled on her black tennis and pulled her long hair into a ponytail. She grabbed her katana and slung it over her back. "Jackson! wake up! its ceremony day, look okay." she yelled through Jackson's door. She could hear his snoring come to a stop and he got up. Missy walked outside and jumped onto the train. when it got to a certain point she jumped off the moving train and rolled down the hill along with all the other dauntless people. they were screaming and yelling startling the other factions. "Whhoooooooo!!!!!!!!" she yelled and held up her katana, causing some boy nearby to wet her pants. She laughed and went inside to take her seat in the warriors section.

Sam, who's real name was Samantha, was a seventeen year old, she was born a Dauntless and stayed a Dauntless, she was gonna train the initiates, on her test she got Dauntless, Erudite, and Candor on her test, so was obviously a divergent, got up and moaned. Today they got new initiates. She put a black tank top and black leather jacket on but left it unzipped. Along with black shorts and black lace up boots. She put a knife in each boot and a gun in her waist band. Sam brushed her long blonde hair. Her left upper arm bore a lightning bolt and her right ankle had a dove. The nape of her neck had an arrow shooting towards her heart as well. "Okay." She jogged out the door and jumped on the train.

Jason, who was an eighteen and a half year old Amity, who came from Candor, and wasn't a divergent got out of bed and put on a colorful tie and pants. He always wore bright colors, and he loved it, and today he had to look special, because there would be new amity students coming in, he would have to train them in pitchforks. It was an odd weapon, but it was useful. Jason went down stairs and started to walk. He watched the dauntless jump off the train and scare so many people. He shook his head and went inside to take his seat in the warriors section. Anyone who was in leader ship and a trainer, sat in the warriors section, it was a high honor.

Kilex, who was an eighteen year old, who came from Amity, and was a divergent, woke with a jolt. It was her test. She rubbed her head and swiftly put on her clothes. Then, she put her hair in a long plait and and looked in the mirror for a couple of seconds. Kilex turned away and walked out of the small, gray house. She walked to her line, and then noticed a guy... he had good looks and her face suddenly became red. That guy was Jason. Jason looked up and saw a girl staring at him. He gave a polite wave and small smile, then turned back to his conversation with another person in leader ship.

Sam jumped off the train and jogged into the building where the Choosing Ceremony would be and sat with her faction. Anna, who was a fifteen year old Dauntless who came from Abnegation, and was a divergent, joined the other initiates for Dauntless, moving quietly.

Noa, or Noaelle who was a twelve year old, who was from Erudite, and was a divergent, but didn't know it, watched her parents quietly.

"Welcome!" a blonde woman said, quieting everyone. "yesterday you took the test. you were told what would be best for you. But today, you get to choose which faction you will be in for the rest of your life." she said holding her hands. her name was Jeanine Matthews, she was the leader of the erudite, and wore a blue suit for women. "Now when I call your name, you will come up and take the knife, making a small slice in your hand. then you will drop your blood into one of these five bowls. each one represents a faction." she said pointing to the knife and the five white bowls. She sighed and smiled a thin smile. She walked over to the bowl and pulled out a piece of paper. she said looking at the crowd waiting for the person to come up.

Missy got bored and sat back making small talk with someone beside her, waiting for somebody to chose dauntless.

Jason was intent, he was waiting for the person to come up, hopefully choosing amity.

Varrisa, waited patiently. She knew not many would choose abnegation, but she had to be ready if they did.

Fraun, who was an eighteen year old Erudite, whom used to be a Dauntless, and wasn't a Divergent, was smiling like an idiot raising his eyebrows at nearby girls. His hands were behind his hand and he was slouching. He didn't care what people thought of him, he was best in erudite, which was why he sat in the warriors section.

Valin, who was a nineteen year old Candor, who used to be an Abnegation, and was a Divergent, lit a small cigarette in the back. He didn't like sitting and preferred to watch from a faraway distance. His dark brown hair kept falling in his face and he would have to blow it out of the way. He was thinking of just chopping it off, besides most people in candor had short hair anyway.

Kilex sat with her brother. She was scared, but not to scared... she then swallowed hard, waiting for Jeanie to call her name.

Jocelyn, who also goes by Celyn or Jo, Jesperson, was a sixteen year old, whom was an Amity and is a divergent, sat with her faction, wondering how her parents would take her choice of faction. She twisted the hem of her shirt, just wishing for the choosing ceremony to be over.

Anna, whom used to be an Abnegation, then chose Dauntless, and is a Divergent, watched her choose Dauntless and looked around the group, wondering who else would choose Dauntless.

Dauntless cheered loudly causing some people nearby to flinch. One girl got out of her seat and gave it up for Ivorian. Jeanine smiled and drew the next name. " Kilex Sinfrost." she said looking around.

Celyn looked around at the others. The Dauntless were always a rowdy crowd to be around, and always so unpredictable. She brushed her hair back nervously.

Kilex hesitated. She kissed her brother on the cheek and rose from her chair. She slowly walked up to the bowls, with her long brown plait swaying as she walked, her blue eyes shone with shyness, and her long gray dress outlining her braid. She picked up the knife and slowly sliced her hand. Then, she scanned the bowls. She let a drop of blood fall into a bowl: Dauntless.

Jeanine forced a smile as she went over to the name bowl to call the next name as Kilex went off the stage. She sat down after another person got up and gave her their seat. Of course they again cheered loudly. She plucked another tan piece of paper and called out another name: "Annabelle Barlow." She dropped the paper into the trash can next to her and waited for the girl to come up.

Missy rolled her eyes as the second person chose dauntless. she wish she could tell them that they had only a small chance at being in dauntless. at least a 3rd of them were going to be cut from the list and become faction less, but people just didn't know this and she was allowed to tell them, but she would do her best to train them and make it hard for the leaders to choose who to cut.

Anna stood and made her way to the stage. She glanced to the bowls and picked up the knife. She quickly made a small cut on her hand and held her hand over the dauntless bowl. She put the knife down and confidently made her way to dauntless' section. Sam hid a laugh as more people chose Dauntless. 'They'll never make it.' She thought. 'They can try at least.' She shrugged. Dauntless cheered and some people from nearby sections started worrying. They were afraid that everyone would choose dauntless and nobody would be brave enough to choose something else or remain in their faction. A nice handsome boy moved out of his seat and gave it up to Anna. The boy raised his eyebrows at her then went to the back. It was just tradition to give up your seat, for some reason. Jeanine walked back up to the bowl and drew another name. "Jocelyn Jesperson." she left the stage for the girl and sat back down in her seat in the front row.

Anna smiled and took the seat, looking back to the stage for the next person to choose.

Missy went over to Sam and whispered, "I wish I could tell them, that they only have a slight chance. It's just not fair. If they knew they wouldn't choose us and we would get the really brave ones, not just wanna bes. Missy scoffed and looked at the 3rd girl sit down. These girls were going to get pummeled.

Kilex sat beside Anna and whispered. "Hey." Anna looked over at Kilex "Hey"

Jocelyn stood, glancing at her parents as she got up to the front of the room. She cut her palm and walked over to the Erudite Bowl. Her blood dripped into the water, and she hurried to the Erudite section, wishing everything would be over.

"You excited?" Kilex smiled. "Yes, this should be interesting." Anna replied and smiled
Jocelyn got a polite applause and a shake from Jeanine. Somebody offered her their seat, and went to the back.

"Ya... but did you see Jason." Kilex said, looking over Anna. "Jason?" Anna asked. "He's in a different fraction..." Kilex softly sighed, eyes glazed.

Jeanine went back up to the stage. "Noaelle Strewning." She went back down and sat down. Noa went to the stage and over to the bowls. She held the knife , debating a moment longer, then cut her hand and let the blood drip into the eridite bowl. She decided to stay with her faction. She put the knife down and went to the Eridite section. Noa's parents smiled as she stayed with her faction. She took her original seat and Jeanine smiled polity shaking her hand. Jeanine walked back up and pulled another name. "Ryan Jesperson." she turned around and sat back down in her seat. Everyone tensed as they waited. he was the first boy called. Noa smiled as she took her seat. Fraun smiled and nodded at Noa. He was respectable and very spunky. He wore blue and black, with some weird tennis. He was sort of the odd one out, which was why he was the trainer. Ryan, whom was a seventeen year old Amity, and wasn't a divergent, stood in an easygoing manner, walking up to the front of the room. The cut stung slightly, but he didn't mind the pain. He approached the stones of Abnegation, watching his blood drip on them. He approached the Abnegation section, sitting with his new faction. Instead of getting anything, he got a hug from a few people and was given a seat by a nice elderly woman.

"Carolina." Carolina, a sixteen year old Candor, and a divergent, went up she slit her hand and dropped her blood in the Amity bowl. Amity clapped as Carolina went up to her new faction. She didn't pay attention to any one else's choices

Kaleb, a seventeen year old Candor, and diveregent, was sitting next to Missy just watching.

"Mik." Mik, a sixteen year old Candor, who wasn't divergent, came up. She dripped her blood in the Amity bowl, she was best friends with Carolina and had to chose the same faction if she ever wanted to see her again. Mik sat down with candor as everyone clapped for her.

chapter one is good!

Yay! Here Is chapter 2:

Chapter 2: Our New Factions

After a while of calling a hundred different names, the ceremony was over and another one would be held in a year.
Dauntless raced out of the building screaming and yelling down the streets. They ran far and climbed some poles. They waited about a minute until a train came and every one ran after it jumping onto the cars, not waiting for any stops. If you didn't get on you were gone. Life wise, you would run off a cliff. Erudite walked away in an old fashion, and abnegation left through the back doors going to the faction less and leading the new people to their new home. Every one else went to their new homes also, getting ready for tomorrow to be trained. Dauntless ran fast on the train and started jumping across a very wide space with a long drop to the top of another building."Come on new recruits, if you don't jump your out!" Missy yelled to them. She jumped and landed in a roll then stood up, hoping everyone had followed and made it. Sam ran and jumped on the train, landing perfectly like she had many times before. "Everyone on, Missy?" She looked to her. Anna followed the dauntless group onto the train. She didn't look down at the drop as she made the jump onto the top of the building. She landed in a roll and quickly go to her feet again, looking around. "Gather around!" Missy yelled as the last people arrived. Sam looked at the initiates as they crowded Missy and laughed quietly. Kilex leapt out of the train and landed on her back. She started to laugh. "Is there any reason you are laughing?" missy said very harshly and looked at the person. "Nope. No reason at all." Sam smiled sweetly, acting innocent. Missy rolled her eyes and pointed to a dark hole."Jump. You don't know what's at the bottom, so u have to trust me." Missy said standing on the ledge. "Who's going first?" she said smiling in an evil way. She loved to scare the new people. "Me," Kilex said. She walked up to the building and stood on the ledge. She looked down and could smell the tension in the air. Kilex closed her eyes, and jumped. Missy gave a laugh and stepped aside. "Off you go." she said toying with the knife in her hand. "Who's next?" Sam looked around. Anna shrugged and went to the edge of the hole, looking down. She glanced around then jumped. Max followed, jumped over the drop and landed in a roll and bouncing back to her feet, not missing a beat. She flipped her hair from her face and waited. A man came up to Kilex and helped her out. He asked her name and said "Kilex! First jumper." he then helped Anna out of the net at the bottom and more people cheered. "Names Jackson, nice to meet you." he said to anna. He winked at her then went back to the net to help the next person. "Anyone else ready to go?" Missy asked. Max nodded. She walked over the the edge and stood, looking down. After a split second, though, not through hesitation, she jumped. Anna smiled and looked around, glancing back to the hole she had jumped through. There had been a net there and the room was red. Jackson went over and helped max out. "What's your name?" "Max" she said, looking around the large room. It was really cool, her type of place. She knew her parents would be mad at her for not staying in her faction, but, she just didn't want to be there. She hadn't even looked back at them when she went to her new faction, and didn't see them after either. So, she probably wouldn't see them at all for a long time. "Anyone else willing to jump, possibly to their death?" Sam teased. "Yeah" Missy said laughing and tossing the knife into the air. "Nice to meet you max, I'm Jackson. " he said and motioned over to the group of people. "Nice to meet you too." She said, and joined the group of people, her long dark brown hair hanging down to her waist, even on a ponytail. Kilex smiled and high fived Max. Anna watched Kilex and Max, smiling. She looked back to Jackson, watching for the others to come through the hole."Come on boys, 3 girls went. Someone else has to go eventually." Missy said catching the knife. Her very long black hair was tied in a pony but still swayed in the wind. The katana at her side made her look younger than seventeen. Max grinned. "Hi. What's up?" Missy watched as person after person jumped finally it was just her and sam left. "After you." she said smiling at Sam and pointing to the net with the knife. Jackson helped all the new recruits down and waited for Sam and Missy to come down too. He knew they wouldn't need help but he knew the girls would kill him if he started without them. After all they were trainers. "Okay." Sam walked over and back flipped off the roof into the net. Missy smiled and said to herself, "showoff." she grabbed her katana and jumped down after her. Missy landed in the net on her feet and walked out. She met up with Jason and the other trainers in front of the new recruits. She looked at Sam and smiled. "Should we start?" Sam looked to Missy.

Noa followed the erudite group quietly. Fraun led the new ones of erudite into erudite territory and stopped in front of an old building. "this is your new home for the next month. don't like it, then you can leave. my name is fraun i will be training you in swordsmanship. it may seem hard, especially for the ladies, but it is actually quite easy. now lets go to the den.

Valin followed all the requirements for new recruits in candor and then switched to the gym to practice for tomorrow.

Jason led the new people in amity to the den and gave them their beds and showed them the one room with bathrooms and all. He then went outside letting them do what they needed to do and get dressed. He started by picking up the pitch fork. It may have been a farmers tool 300 years ago, but now it was also a weapon of grace and agility.

Marcus (leader of abnegation)lead the new recruits to Varissa for abnegation training and left them to go make some decisions on the board. Varissa smiled at the people then got serious. In order for them to be trained, they had to be focused, which meant she had to be mean. " Alright, listen up. I am going to train you for the next month and then after words u will be assigned to certain areas to help people and do your job. If you don't pay attention you will be punished. I may be in abnegation, but that doesn't mean I'm nice." she said harshly and bitterly. Every trainer had to be tough, and she was. "Let's go to the den." she said leading them into abnegation territory. Noa listened to Fraun, looking at the building. She followed the others inside to the den. "This is where you will be sleeping." it was a bunch of beds for both boys and girls, and there were toilets lined up against the wall. They had to learn to deal with harsh environments. "Now get trained and I'll meet you in the dinning hall." he said rudely and walked out leaving them alone.

"I think we shall. Jackson?"
Missy said turning to him. Jackson took this as his cue and went forward with the plan. "Okay listen up, my name is jackson most people call me JK. That's all you get to know about me, and that I'm a the game master and will decide who gets cut. Yes cut, at the end of your training a 3rd of you to about a 4th of you will be leaving us to join the factionless. So try your best. Everyone follow me." JK said leading them down the red stairwell and into a room he stopped in front of a bunch of beds and said,"This is where you'll be sleeping. Boys and girls. Like that, then you will love the bathrooms." he said pointing to a row of about 12 toilets lined up against the wall. They were all exposed to. "any Q's" he asked looking pleased. Missy was snickering behind Jackson. She had to go through this to, and she couldn't wait to get complaints. Sam smiled. "I'm Samantha. But call me Sam or I will probably kill you." "Ya... When do we get to start training?" Max asked. "Tomorrow morning." Missy said stepping up. "Now get changed, find a bed and drop your old clothes in the furnace. I'll see you guys at dinner." Missy said waving the trainers away and leaving the recruits alone by themselves. "Yeah! Absolutely priceless!" Sam laughed. Missy went to the training hall and started throwing knives and doing hand to hand exercises. She was just warming up and getting hungry for dinner, that's all .Sam followed Missy into the training room and started punching the punching bag. 'I am out of shape' she thought to herself even though compared to any other person she was. Max shrugged, choose the bed she wanted, and changed into her new clothes, black of course. Anna looked around the room and moved to one of the beds. She loosened her hair and started to finger-comb it as she looked around the room at the others. Noa glanced around the room, then shrugged and found clothes that would fit her, changing quickly. Anna stood and used her hair to shield herself as she changed clothes. Once she had changed she braided her hair to keep it out of the way. Some guys nearby the girls whistled and then changed themselves, not being modest at all. A few boys kept looking at Kilex, Maw, and Anna. Some guys even got closer. They were such perverts. Anna sent a glare at any boy who came close to her and turned to go to the dining hall. Once there she looked for a seat. She shrugged to herself and went to sit near Jackson. Max rolled he eyes at their immaturity. Then took her ponytail out of her hair, her hair falling past her waist, and combed her fingers through it before redoing the ponytail. Then, she headed down to the dining hall. There were alot of people in the dining hall, considering all of dauntless was there. A few seats were open here and there. Mostly though they were open around Jackson , Missy and Sam, who had gone to the dining hall after beating the crap out of some dummies. Sam got in the dining room and tried to wipe the sweat of her forehead. Missy sat down next to Jackson and waved Sam over to sit across from her. Sam sat next to Missy and looked around. "Hey." Jackson said to Anna. He liked the girls better because they respected him and were nice, unlike most of the boys who just wanted to beat him. "Hey" Anna replied and smiled. "How do you like your new home?" he said smiling and eating a french fry. He thought it was mean the way they had it set up, but it was pretty funny. "I'll have to teach the boys manners, but it won't do until later." Anna said, picking up a fry. She looked at her burger, debating when to try it, before or after her fries were gone. She glanced to Jackson "Is the burger good?" " You haven't eaten a burger?" he smiled in disbelief then nodded. "Abnegation, right. Uh yes they're quite good." JK said smiling. "Yeah, abnegation." Anna nodded and ate the fry, then picked up the burger. She looked at it a moment then took a small bite, chewing slowly. "Soo?" JK asked looking at her chew. Anna swallowed before speaking "It's different, but I like it." She said and smiled. he sighed in relief. "Good, thought I was going to have to make sure you had vegetarian meals" he joked. Anna smiled and took another bite of the burger. She decided she would only eat half of it, to give her body a chance to become accustomed to meat slowly. "You could, but I would find a way to try some somehow." she said, only half joking. Max took a seat with the group after getting something to eat. She looked around the dining area. Its very different from Erudite. That's for sure. She thought. "Sup?" Missy asked Max as she sat down. S he looked around for Kaleb. He was a friend of hers. Just like Sam, and he was late. Kaleb walked into the dining room and sat down by JK. "Hey." Sam got her food and quickly started eating. "bout timeyou got here." Missy said to Kaleb. "I thought I was going to have to rescue you. You had me worried" Missy said taking a bite of her burger. "Haha shut up." Kaleb said and blushed. "How'd the initiates like the dorms?" she chuckled, "Oh they loved them alright. Right missy?" she said trying not to laugh out loud. Sam laughed, "The looks on there faces were hilarious!" Kaleb laughed and said "Good." Missy laughed to. "No offense guys." she said to Max, and Anna."None taken." She took another bite of her hamburger. "None taken" Anna said, looking over a moment before returning to her meal. Missy was still smiling. "So you guys ready for tomorrow?" she asked Kaleb and Sam. "Oh yeah baby!" Sam rubbed her hands together mischievously. "Yep." Kaleb nodded and took a big bite of his hamburger. Missy smiled at the two of them and continued eating. "Hey Kaleb why were you late?" Missy asked. "I was working on my sword work." Kaleb shrugged and took another bite. Missy eyed him suspiciously then shrugged taking her last bite. She got up and put away her tray. She sat back down and looked at her watch. "Any time now." Missy said. and as if on cue a man came up to the balcony with the fence and everyone shushed. He was the leader of the dauntless and he was awesome. Max walked up and got cheers. "Now today we celebrate the coming of new recruits. Let us welcome them!" He yelled and all the dauntless people started picking up the newbies and passing them around to each other cheering. Missy just laughed and motioned for Sam and Kaleb to follow her if they didn't want a part in this. Anna looked around at the other newbies as they were picked up and passed around, so she knew what to expect when they came for her. She sighed softly and smiled as she was picked up and passed around with the others. Missy laughed as she saw Anna reluctantly go up. Anna smiled and waited for them to put her back down. Eventually, everyone put the newbies down and went to go do other activities until curfew. Missy laughed "That was awesome, don't you guys think?" Missy said to Kaleb and Sam. Anna looked around and shook her head a little with a small smile. "Well, that was different" she said softly. "Yeah." Kaleb shrugged. "I still can't forget there faces." Sam laughed. "What do we want to do now?" "Oh, well I was going to hit the gym, either of you want to come with, or are you doing something else?" she asked looking at them. Sam shrugged. "Okay." Kaleb nodded. "Let's go." "Bye" Anna said and looked around. "Hi there. What was your name again?" she asked taking a bite of his sandwich. Anna turned to see who had spoken. It was just another girl a little bit younger than Anna who had spoken. She had bright red heir and freckles. "Hi, my name is fress." she said extending her hand. She had to have been 15 and a half. "Anna" She said and shook her hand. She smiled and then turned away and went with her friends."Bye" she yelled and waved at her while walking out of the room.
