Should I open my nesting boxes?

Good to hear that there are other North Carolinians on here! I think I will just open the boxes and once the grower feed is gone, move to layer feed and oyster shell on the side. Hope everyone will be happy and healthy with that!

Layer feed with oyster shells on the side will not accomplish anything. Grower feed with oyster shells on the side is what you want.

Sooo, what I think I'm hearing is that if I start my Orpingtons on layer feed, to NOT get the kind that has oyster shell already in it, for fear the rooster may eat it too. But to give the oyster shell on the side, as the roosters won't be as likely to eat it.
Not at all.

Layer feed = calcium in feed

All Flock/Flock raiser = protein with NO CALCIUM

Oyster Shell = all calcium

All Flock/Flock Raiser + Oyster Shell on the side = Protein needed and the pullets get to choose when they eat the calcium their body needs. And the rooster will only eat the Flock food.

OK I knew no one agreed with me! Good old plain layers is my magic potion...
Not sure what's funny but OK, if you actually want to discuss that...?!
What WAS supposed to be funny (guess not) is I said originally that it's a big debate about feed, you saying no agreed with you, and I mentioned another huge debate item that tends to lead to long threads of differences of opinions. Just trying to make light of the subject by mentioning another highly debated subject. I used the laughing emoji to make sure you knew it was a joke and to be taken lightly.
