one of my 2 yr. old girls has been brooding heavily for almost 2 weeks. She did this last year, but outside their house, and pretty much gave up when her eggs were eaten by a predator.

This year, she’s pretty intent — she has barely moved from her nest. Fortunately, this year’s nest is inside the duck house in a safe spot.

I have no idea if the eggs are viable or not.

I am fearful that if the eggs do hatch, there might be new drakes. We are already at 3 drakes to 5 ducks, and there is zero chance I will ever cull a drake.

Would it be cruel to take away the eggs if I somehow got her away from the nest? If I try to get close to her now, she hisses at me.

Can you get some ducklings from a feed store? I have no idea of baby ducks are sexed but I would swap her eggs for some ducklings especially if I knew they where sexed. That wary you could increase your females. Looking forward if you don't want to cull males or attempt to re home them you need to collect eggs everyday and possibly broody break any ducks that decide to want to sit. Or at least set a a seperate male flock pen to keep the extra males away from the females
