So, it's day 20 and nine out of twenty (chicken) eggs have hatched. It's getting a bit crowded in the incubator. I'd like to transfer the dry chicks to the brooder, but many of the other eggs have already pipped. I'm afraid if I open the incubator, I'll shrink wrap the ones that are pipping. On the other hand, if I leave them, I'm afraid the hatching eggs will get jostled and pecked at. This is only my second hatch. The previous time, I hatched quail eggs, and I removed the chicks in batches, but I was able to time it so that the other eggs weren't pipping when I opened the lid, and I tossed a warm wet paper towel in to increase the humidity.
Wondering what everyone else does? Should I take them out or be patient and wait? The oldest is about 24 hours old, the others are about 8-12 hours. This is so exhilirating and stressful at the same time!
