I read a post yesterday people are loving something called PDZ bought some yesterday at tractor supply its for horse stalls and safe for chicken coops they say its easier to clean than wood shavings absorbs moisture and ammonia gonna change mine out today.

do you think if i put more ventalation in it would help stop the mites? do mites cause much harm to the hens? there are mainly brownish ones and a couple of red 1s so i suppose they suck blood! horrible things

I think you answered you question. Yes mite do harm.

i have sprayed each hen, i clean the houses out every few weeks even when they dont need it, and im dusting the hen house all the time with farm powder for lice. i check the hens by looking through the feathers and when i last cleaned them out a few days ago i realised the bedding was full of mites, i have even noticed that my chicks have lice too! i know its a seasonal thing and in the winter there are none! but im just worried about the hens health.
