Should I switch from layer to grower? Hens not laying

I would prefer to feed fresh- my dogs get fed a partial raw diet for the same reason.
Even if I could figure out how to supplement part of the chicken feed with fresh grains and still keep a balanced diet I’d be happy.
It is true that storing the grains whole will preserve some nutrients better than grinding them before storage.

But the grains are only "fresh" for a small part of the year. Each kind of grain gets ripe at a certain season, gets harvested, and is then stored until it is used. There will not be any more fresh grain until harvest time the next year. If you're willing to ship grain from the other hemisphere (northern or southern), I suppose you could have fresh grain twice a year (roughly every 6 months.)

Feeding "fresh" meat to dogs is a little different, because animals can be butchered at any time of the year.

Of course a freezer can be used to keep meat or grains "fresh" for longer.
