should I take it back to the vet?? photo!!

I think you could have done it better yourself. The vet should admit he/she didnt know what he was doing and refund your money.

I learned a long time ago that I could not afford a Vet. If an old farmer cant fix or cure it you are wasting time and money going to a vet. Most will rob U without a gun! An old honest vet told me one time "you cant charge people more than an animal is worth its just wrong"

When you go to a vet you are not paying for a product per se and there is no guarantee of a cure... it could be that the leg was splayed and twisted (unable to really see in the photo though it does seem that there is twisting here too at first glance) and the cause is often difficult to if not impossible to assess without some pretty pricey testing (and this will only help in diagnosis not treatment)
I think your vet acted responsibly is hobbling the legs however not being a poultry specialist might have missed some important nutritional considerations specific to poultry ...
Here is some info for you:
The following pdf reviews several causes (with photos illustrating) I hope the link works :

"...Lameness can be attributed to non-infectious conditions, infectious conditions, a combination of both, and on some occasion a synergistic interaction of both. ......The most common causes of lameness are of infectious or nutritional cause."

Most Pets type Vets don't do Chickens. That is usually left up to the producer/farmer/owner.
Even Farm type vets usually are not that Knowledable about chickens, unless they have acted as a inspector in
a processing plant.

is any of the joints deformed or swelling in the joint ?

is any of the leg bones curved to any degree?

is the bird using it's toes, or are they starting to or are curved.

Not to bad, Mostly about feed deficiencies.

Iv e worked a whole week of hard manual labor for less money than that.
If there is a hell, i would think that man would be in front of the line. thats sad and sorry and evil to do tht to a fellow human being.
I remember as a young girl, I took a pup to the vet. It was new born and the runt and very close to death. He took it back into the back of the office and brough it back,,,, dead. and I recall that with a smile..he knew I could not afford to save that pup.. it was fruitless and just a waste of my money.
of course he knew it was just a front step dog.
and its suffering would go on too long. jdy

i cut the tape....it is all stuck to the chicks feathers....i don"t know how to get it off. Now the joint is all bruised and swollen (and stck in tape!) I don"t mind if the little guy is deformed...it"s not like its a show chicken or anything. I think the vet was all proud of his "aviary accredation" and was trying to show off....he really knows nothing about chickens. I will try to get a new picture on here. Thanks for all of your help...i"ve learned so much here!!!

oops ... in answer to your question "should I take it back to the vet" ... (and without any comment whatsoever on the vet or his charges ) ... when reviewing the literature for this type of thing, unless you are will to spend a lot more (which , after a review of the literature would seem to hold little hope for a definitive solution to the problem) my advice would be no.
