should i trim below vent

hi- just coming into spring here &one hen has very dirty rear,doesnt appear to be poop, looks like dried mud stuck after dust bathing (this hen very fluffy light sussex)gets a lot of attention from the roo) should i trim below vent or just wash ?.

I'd trim it because if she gets it very dirty once, she'll get it very dirty again, and if you trim it close to the skin it'll be easier to stay clean.
