I have a 6 week old supposedly sapphire olive egger pullet. Hen status seems very unlikely. I can get an appointment to get him into a rehoming program next week. Before I do, is there any chance I could be wrong? I’m a novice but I swear the comb has gotten redder and larger in just a few days.

The first pics were taken Tuesday. This one was taken Sunday. So in 48 hours I swear the comb grew significantly. (Second pic is from today - Wednesday)

I love his comb, it's so well balanced and the points are so well serrated and free from any sprig. Pity it's not a pure breed.

This cockerel is a good prospect for a flock rooster as long as it’s for a backyard flock and not a purebred breeding project.

The progeny should be pretty easy to identify as to sex when they are just 3, 4 or 5 weeks old....unless he’s only only Silkie or Polish hens...

If you have to rehome this little guy with the extravagant comb, try to find someone who wants a flock or breeder rooster rather than just to make chicken soup. Sell rather than just give away.

I say this rarely, but you could put conditions on rehoming to give this little guy a break and make sure he gets a home where he can be the Boss. The large comb is a very good trait because it will help with sexing the chicks from when he covers hens in the future!

Plus, the egg color!

Selecting FOR the large crest trait will help other chicken keepers!
