We live on 5 acres, we breed and train German Shepherds and some of the dogs stay in outside kennels so even though we live in the country and know there are Foxes, Skunks, Racoons, etc. We have never seen them on our property or at least close enough because of the dogs, I'm sure that's why anyway.

However, we do have a lot of Black and Gardner Snakes. We plan on making our run with regular fencing but also putting chicken wire half way from the ground up. Would Gardner Snakes try to eat the eggs?? I just don't think they are big enough??? Anyone has had any incidents with Gardner Snakes??

I know we do have to worry about Black Snakes but they won't be able to get through a chicken wire???

Thanks for all your help!

pine, corn and rat snakes are much more likely to eat your Eggs I do not believe a Garter snake could.. Its a Good idea to try and make sure your coop is sealed pretty good .. for any potential pests .. Collect your Eggs often to avoid temptation for larger snakes. I have not seen it but I hear Chickens will actually Kill smaller snakes ... I know I have heard guineas Do .. They do sell like Snake away and such .. But I have never had a problem in my area of NY.. But I am a bit away from snakes like Rattlers ..
